Toyota just built a GR Sport Avanza
Toyota Indonesia reveals sportier Avanza Veloz GR Limited

It seems Toyota wants to give every vehicle in their lineup the Gazoo Racing Sport (GR Sport) treatment.
Aside from the Corolla, Land Cruiser, and the Vios, the automaker's compact MPV also gets a sporty makeover. This is the 2022 Toyota Avanza Veloz GR Limited, and it receives both exterior and interior upgrades.

Based on the top-of-the-line Avanza Veloz, this dressed-up MPV features unique GR-S front and rear bumpers, a new lower air intake with GR emblem, black side mirror caps, gloss-black 15-inch wheels, black foglight bezels, and window visors.
Moving to the interior of the MPV, it gets a leather-wrapped black dashboard, black-red fabric seats, an push start/stop button, and a digital air-conditioning panel. Unfortunately, no unique GR-S gauge cluster for the Avanza.

Despite getting a sporty makeover both inside and out, no changes were made the same under the hood. Depending on the variant chosen, the Avanza Veloz GR Limited can come with either a 1.3- or 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated Dual VVT-i engine. The former puts out 97 PS with 120 Nm of torque, while the latter produces 104 PS with 136 Nm of torque. A five-speed manual gearbox and a four-speed automatic transmission are available for the special edition Avanza.

Toyota Indonesia will only build a few units of the Avanza Veloz GR Limited. There's no word yet if other ASEAN markets will get their hands on the special edition MPV. But since this is a special edition model, does this mean an all-new Avanza is in the works? Rumors are going around saying that the next-generation model could debut before 2021 ends.

Given that Toyota took the time to actually design a GR Sport kit for the Avanza, the question now is will the Innova also receive a GR Sport variant? It's possible, but it looks like we'll have to wait for now.
