MIAS turns 10
For 4 days last week, the World Trade Center in Pasay City hosted the 2014 Manila International Auto Show, marking the 10th edition of the country's premiere industry motor show.
As with the previous 9 editions of MIAS, this year's show held the public reveals of numerous models, including the first motor show of a returning auto brand as well as an entirely new player to arrive in the country.
The Manila International Auto Show has had a challenging 10 years, given the trends in the industry and the economy, but year on year the attendance has grown. Last year show organizers announced that they were able to break the 100,000 visitor mark over 4 days.
This year, the attendance has reached a new high at 102,000 visitors, a testament of the show's enduring appeal to car shoppers and enthusiasts alike.

Ford surprises crowd with the Escape
When Ford Philippines shut down their Santa Rosa, Laguna plant at the end of 2012, many in the industry thought that was the end of the Ford Escape; a thought supported by the launch of the all-new EcoSport subcompact crossover.
It came as a surprise to many who visited the Ford booth when they had a 2014 Ford Escape on display fresh from the United States.
Ford says that the Escape will be sold towards the end of 2014 but no price has been revealed as of yet.
Burning rubber with Russ Swift
The show also hosted the Russ Swift Stunt Show by Subaru, wherein precision stunt driver Russ Swift rallied the crowds with his high octane maneuvers. Swift has been a consistent main attraction of the Manila International Auto Show in past editions.

Next generation Kia Soul breaks cover
The next generation Kia Soul also made its Philippine debut at MIAS 2014, the second generation model of Kia's 2-box subcompact crossover/hatchback.
The vehicle takes its design cues from the Kia Track’ster, a 3-door coupe concept presented at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show. The exterior of the 2015 Kia Soul is designed with a trapezoidal lower air intake that is incorporated by the vehicle’s fog lights. Kia says the design concept of the new Soul is geared to cut the vehicle’s aerodynamic drag to be able to improve its fuel economy at higher speeds.
