A few months ago, Ken Block announced that he has teamed up with Audi. While no specific details were mentioned, the automaker said Block will help them develop future electric vehicles. However, most expected something else was in the works, specifically, a new vehicle for the Head Hoonigan. It seems most guessed right, and Audi has now revealed their new racer built specifically for Block.

Meet the Audi S1 e-tron Quattro Hoonitron. A one-off electric race car built exclusively for Block. Yes, it's electric and directly inspired by the legendary Sport Quattro S1 Pikes Peak racer. While it might share the name, it's not based on that vehicle. Instead, it's an entirely new model built from the ground up by Audi. Since it is electric, there's no screaming turbocharged 5-cylinder engine under the hood.

The design of Hoonitron is very radical. It combines current Audi design elements with the styling of the original Sport Quattro S1, such as the extended lip, wide box-style fender, and the massive rear wing. It even incorporates the huge roof scoop from the original race car. Instead of 5-spoke alloys, Audi fitted turbofan wheels. The automaker adds that it is even built to FIA standards. While it might be a ground-up build, Audi says it only took four weeks to build.

“The S1 Hoonitron combines a lot of what Audi was already famous for in the nineteen-eighties. For instance, the car’s spectacular aerodynamics have now been translated into a totally modern form. I think it’s cool that the Audi designers have been inspired by their own past and uniquely transferred the car’s technologies and appearance into the present,” said Block.

Audi did not disclose details of the electric powertrain apart from it using two electric motors paired with the brand's signature Quattro all-wheel drive system. However, expect it to have more than enough power for four-wheel burnouts. Thankfully, we'll be able to see the Hoonitron in action once the next Gymkhana series video releases in the coming months.

To have a better idea about Hoonitron and how Audi designers built it, you can check out Ken Block's walkaround video above. The video we're waiting for, though, is Hoonitron slaying tires in the next Gymkhana video.
