Listen to the Formula E cars' new jet-like sound
The Formula E cars for Season 8 look and sound good

Formula E has big changes in store for the 2022/2023 season. They will introduce their 3rd-generation race car design with big performance improvements over the current Gen2 cars. But before the Gen3 cars arrive next year, it seems Formula E has already made a few changes on how the current electric race cars sound.
Yes, you read that right. While most would expect Formula E to be quiet since they are electric, after all. The organizers made sure that the cars produced a certain noise. It might not sound like the V6 turbos of current Formula 1, but it's there. It always has been from the start. However, the new sound the current Formula E cars make in Season 8 is very distinct. They sound like a mix between a fighter jet and something straight out of Star Wars. Don't believe us? You can have a listen for yourself in the video above.
What's interesting is that the cars sound slightly different from one another. Mind you, teams run the same chassis and a similar electric motor setup. Whatever the case, the new futuristic sound does make the car look faster in the videos. Fans watching the race live will also benefit from the new sound. It won't be as loud as current hybrid F1 cars or as nice as the V8 and V10 of older F1 cars, but it is distinctly Formula E.

Aside from the new sound, the Formula E cars also received a livery makeover for the 2021/2022 season. For example, Nissan retains the same black-red colorway but features more red than black. The Mercedes-EQ Formula E team decided to run a similar livery inspired by their F1 car as before, but with a few subtle changes.
The 2021/2022 season of Formula E will kick off in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia on January 28 and 29. There, we'll be able to hear the new sound of the cars in a city environment.
