Toro Rosso confirms switch to Ferrari power for 2016 F1 season
Red Bull Formula One (F1) junior team Toro Rosso has confirmed that they will switch to Ferrari engines from Renault next season. This marks a return to the company that supplied engines to Toro Rosso from 2007 to 2013.
For next season, Toro Rosso’s STR11 car will use 2015-spec Ferrari engines that brought Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen to third and fourth places in the season-closing Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost said he is confident that they will be competitive for the 2016 F1 season.
“It’s great to be working with Ferrari again…We have the right team of people for this and I’m confident that together we will achieve a competitive package for next year – bring on 2016!,” said Tost.
In addition, Toro Rosso said that Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz Jr., will still be the team’s drivers for 2016 F1 championships.
