According to Automobile Magazine, Thierry Dombreval, vice president of sales and marketing of Toyota France, the rear wheel drive sports car will make its debut in 2010 and will carry the Celica name, in order to resurrect the successful name from the Japanese manufacturer. This would be the 8th generation of the Celica, which will be developed in co-operation with Subaru. Unfortunately these are the only details available for now.

I guess a RWD coupe is the way forward now that Hyundai has a RWD coupe.  ::)

The question now is whether they'll stick a turbo F4 or a high revving I4. I've heard rumors leading towards the latter.

According to earlier reports, it will most likely be using a Subaru boxer engine.
Some speculate that it might even be using a high output version of Subaru's naturally aspirated boxer engine.
But if they want something stronger, i'm sure they can drop in the STI spec turbo boxer engine.

If you want a clear shot of the rear end, check out the donor car.
