Is your battery a maintenance free type or one that you need to add fluid periodically? Changing to a maintenance free type might solve the rust problem but I suggest you bring your car to a rustproofing specialist like Ziebart to treat the rust before you get a new battery.

Its maintenance free. Used to use iyun u have to add water but its a chore... especially with rav4's coz meron syang cowl cover and it sucks when u check ur battery and u have to remove 5-6 locking clips.  Anyway thanks... will do that soon. Right now am sandpapering my battery mount then gonna be spraying 3-4 coats of anti-rust primer... then automotive paint.

The rust probably formed when you had the old type of battery. When the fumes or liquid spills out it tends to corrode the metal underneath.

Hey thanks for the inputs!.... oh yah about the rubber moulding thingy thats attached to the windshield that came loose... what compount do i have to use to make it stick again? Also am gonna add this na rin... To all rav4 owners where to you buy your battery cowl cover locking clips? iyun plastic parang screw?

It's supposed to stick to the windshield? You should probably use Silicone Sealer.

mikelsy,
about the battery mount rust, a helpful DIY would be rust converter. Buy like the Tulco brand 1L P80 lang. This shall be a great primer to anti rust coating. May curing period din to.

I also experience the same using the non-maintenance free batteries. It happened nung nalubak ako one time when the NLE was being constructed lumabas yung water ng batt. I figured out that as the cause.

regular silicon glue can do the trick for the rubber. Apply just the right amount so when you stick the rubber back the glue won't get oozing out. :)
