2.0/2.4-liter manual CRV. Unsung Euro slayer.

Back in 1999, both Motor Trend and Road & Track tested manual transmission all-wheel drive versions of the 2.0-liter Honda CRV with the following results: 0 to 60mph in 8.6 and 8.8 seconds respectively.

The 2.4-liter version (also equipped with a manual tranny and AWD) even does a bit better.  8.1 sec according to Motorweek and Motor Trend for 02 and 03 models.  04s and 05s should perform the same.

One of the quickest CRVs should be the 2.4 front-wheel drive manual but I can't find a credible test for it and the 2.4 automatically gets AWD in the Philippines.

Anyway, these figure show that your average 99-and-up manual CRV will shame the BMW E36 320i, 2-liter Jag X-Type, Merc C180, 2.5-liter BMW E39 523i,  2.5-liter BMW X3 and even a few other currently available Philippine-market Euro cars stoplight-to-stoplight.  These Euros are mere 9 to 10 sec performers.  Most of these Euros mentioned are available only with auto trannys from the dealer while you can get a CRV with a manual and knowing such just adds more salt to the wound.

Of course the mentioned CRV models will also beat Japs like the 1.8-liter Altis and 2.0/2.3-liter Mazda 6 in a drag race since both these cars are only currently available with auto trannies.

I'm not a big fan of the soft-roader CRV but if I were driving a P2M-plus C180 or even an older 6-cylinder E36 320i, I'd be embarrassed if I were beat by a soccer mom driving a very unassuming Suv. ;)

A CRV equipped with the 2.0 liter K20 Type R version and 6 speed manual tranny would be even better :) The Autoplus CRV ran a 15.4-15.8 (can't remember the exact time) quarter mile before on street tires and a slightly damp track. That should leave even stock SIRs in the dust. And the conversion is quite simple too, assuming you have all the necessary parts.
In a world of compromise, some don't.

Of course...  But that's not a common unit and such is unavailable in the Philippines and in North America.  It's no shame to be beat by a K20 Type R powered unit but to be beat by a box-stock showroom CRV while driving your Euro car is the painful rub.

the k20 powered CRV has a preppy engine! i drive a 1.6 vtec3 civic and when i drive my dad's CRV, it really pulls.

The CRV AT 2.0 really pulls. Its a testament how good the k20 was mated to the CRV's tranny.

What more if you bought the MT version. Or the 2.4 version.

The reason why I pointed out the compatability of the k20 with the CRV's tranny is because I couldnt find the same pull on the 2.0 7th gen Civic. Strange.

hehe :D

can anyone quote the price AutoPlus spent for their whole CRV conversion to Type R tranny and engine?

Thanks :)
Go stable, just right... TO GO FASTER!

hmm i drove my friend's 2.0 and its a big step up from the regular 1.6 vtec3.

wasnt really able to compare it directly to the CRV but the civic pulls really well.

maybe the 5speed a/t tranny has something to do with it. how about the current accord?

I have the 2.0 manual and it's really a gem of an engine I think.  Smooth, quiet, bulletproof reliability, adequate torque down low, and really zippy when you get past 4800-rpm (I think thats when the hot cam engages by the sound of it).

I once surprised an aggressive RAV-4 driver (and myself) by how fast I scooted away from him with a mere downshift from fifth to third that brought the hot cam into play, and then zipping the motor from 5000 to 6500 rpm.  I don't do that often nowadays BTW.  :)

hmmm wait totoo ba to na kakayanin ng crv? kasi ewan ko lang pero since we own a rav4 na manual parang hindi parin siya ganun kabilis e compared to a sedan .... i remembered nga na nung nagbaguio kami pauwi i was driving a manual altis 1.6 4 people against a matic rav4 2.0 4 persons halos pantay lang kami e lumalamang ako sa straight aways ... i  still dont think that a stock crv could shame a sedan easily ... pero kng matic rin .... de ko na alam

From my experience, stock for stock, a manual CRV will easily run away from most 1.6 sedans from a rolling start anyway (because CRV traction from standing still sucks, not to mention the huge torque steer).

It'll stay ahead until the sedan's greater top speed (and better aerodaynamics) enables it to pass at around 160+.   :)

ay o nga pala ... i drove the crv 2.0 AT FWD of my friend and parang mabgal e .. and walng hatak? or maybe de ko lang napapansin...

not too impressed with the newer crv's... the old b20's seem to pull stronger pa. not sure what it's like when the engine is revving way up tho.

hero, figure about 300k-400k++++ for that same work since the engine they installed was brand new. hehe!

the 4x4 2005 Crv my relative had, btw it was replaced by the Prado, cuts the rev at 550rpm, it was not that fast and a gasoline happy gulper. too bad i didn't try to push it that hard. ;D
