Coil Spring Spacers

I enjoyed the lengthy discussion on springs, shocks and coil spring spacers!

How much are spacers and how many are needed (per coil)?  Are these vehicle specific or are they generic?  Finally, how much are these so I know what to expect.

Thanks!

Freeman

If your lucky you will be able to find rubber spacers (15mm to 45mm) in your neighborhood auto supply - about PHP 75.00 each .

Aftermarket 15mm Polyurethane spacers about PHP 1,200 each and about PHP 1,800 for 25mm.

50 mm and higher alloy spacers are also available - no price info on these.

Yes, they are mostly vehicle specific.

VanMan

Thansk RoniN!

For the 75 peso ones, are these easily installed at the neighborhood shop, or can I do it? (as if I know how  :P)

The polyurethane ones appear to be the better choice (barring cost of course).  How many spacers per coil is that?

Hope my questions aren't too elementary!

Thanks!!!

Freeman

No problem!

Usually the spacers are put on top of the spring.

Wont be easy to d.i.y. but that depends on the vehicle your working on. What is it?

ted

ronin,

arent the spacers stiffens or restricts the coil movement? isnt it better to replace a new set with 2" lift? :)

Freeman

Definitely! Better to get a longer spring. With a spacer upward suspension travel of the coil spring is reduced.

RoniN,

I have a Vitara. How many spacers are needed per coil?

Ted,

You have a point about changing the coil.  Problem is, and correct me if I'm wrong, if I get a longer spring I have to change the shocks too, right?

Thank you both!

1 spacer per coil.

If you upgrade coils - you need not change the ftont shocks - It's IFS.

arb

how thick are you planning for the spacers for your vitara?

try to visit this site www.rocky-road.com they have set-ups for your vitara. or you can try to contact wiretap_md he has a lifted vitara with OME suspension upgrades.

VanMan

Thanks ARb!  Inspiring site.  I'll try to get in touch with wiretap_md.  I have absolutely no idea how much these thing cost.

RoniN, thanks for the reply.  Forgive me...what's IFS?

RoniN, thanks for the reply.  Forgive me...what's IFS?

Independent front suspension. Most IFS use torsion bars, yours utilizes coil springs. No matter how far you crank the t bars or raise the springs, shock dimensions remain the same. Unless you replace it with modified A-arms or in other IFS cases a drop-diff kit - longer shocks will be needed.

VanMan

OK!  I get it!  Thanks for being patient with me RoniN.  It's just that when I started reading "Off road" you guys have sparked an interest and I just want to know more and more!

Thanks!
