Driver's tests now automated

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is now implementing the automated driver's tests nationwide.

The LTO recently installed the Automated Driver's License Examination System (ADLES) in its licensing centers and district offices that process driver's licensing transactions requiring written examination. This is part of the system enhancements to the Driver's Licensing System (DLS) under the LTO-Information Technology Project, which is being implemented by the project proponent, Stradcom Corporation.

Manually generated and corrected driver's tests provided the opportunity for errors and tampering of data, but with ADLES in place, these problems will be greatly reduced, if not totally eliminated.

With ADLES, no two tests are alike since the computer randomly selects questions from a bank of questions and prints out the unique exam. Once the applicant completes the test, the answer sheet is fed into the scanner. The answers are then captured from the document using the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) software. A link with the LTO-IT System's database automatically posts the score to the applicant's driving record.

"We are helping LTO enhance the driver's test to make sure that applicants for a driver's license are ready and fit to drive," said Stradcom Chief Operating Officer Ramon G. Reyes. "Understanding driving and traffic laws and regulations and interpreting traffic signals and road signs are basic requirements of safe driving."

The ADLES will ensure that the result of the examination is a true measure of the applicant's aptitude to drive, thus public safety is further promoted.

Not all applicants for driver's license are required to take the written test; these are usually individuals who are new drivers. The tests are offered in English and Tagalog.

For non-professional license, an applicant must score at least 30 out of the 40 multiple-choice questions. On the other hand, an applicant must score at least 45 out of 60 questions and 18 out of 25 questions for professional license and conductor's permit, respectively. Applicants who fail the exam must wait for 1 month to retest.

dapat they should take it a level further by making it computerized. ganun sa developed countries eh parang may isang counter and may screen sa harap mo. random selected yun questions tapos touch screen. tipid pa sa pen and paper. error free pa.  :)
We simply attempt to be fearful when others are greedy and to be greedy only when others are fearful.

naku mukang mawawalan ng income mga fixers nyan hehe yayaman naman mga hacker nyan hehe  :)

Hi Guys!

That's a good thing... we"ll get to have better drivers in the near future.

Now this is a good step :D !!!

I could already see it..... disciplined drivers, less traffic, faster travel time.... It's beautiful!!!! ;D

Well it's better this way. Besides.... the driver's test was easy anyway. Anyone can pass it even without crib notes or fixers. When you look at the test, it's just a matter of common sense and a little memorization work ;D

I don't think this is gonna have an effect on the quality of drivers that this country churns out. It's incredibly easy to pass the written exams anyway. And in our case, knowing the law (road signs, etc. etc.) is different from following the law.
In a world of compromise, some don't.

Yeah good point. Although I bet if more people follow the law because of better knowledge in driving, then maybe it would be like a force of nature, something that you try to resist but you will succumb to it since there's nothing you can do. But that's just me wishfully thinking  ::)

Correct ... e.g. The windshield LTO stickers. We know we have to put it, and yet for some reason (mostly cosmetic), a lot of us don't ... Alam naman nating mali.

Maliliit na bagay. But when you sum it all up ... mahirap maging Pinoy, hehehe.

i think wala ding effect sa traffic conditions dito sa pinas. the driving test (written exam part) should be covering the basic road signs such as hazards, merging lanes, road is slippery, etc.

eh dito sa pinas ilan lang ba nakikita mong signs? yun no-left/right turn at no u-turn lang naman eh dba? i hate to say this but it's really pathetic....either nagtitipid yun government maglagay ng signs or ninanakaw ng mga tao  :-\

Yeah, mahirap nga maging Pinoy, but no citizenship is ever convenient for anybody.  ;D IMHO, mas mahirap maging Indian, or mas mahirap maging Nigerian, or Sri Lankan, or Russian, or Ethiopian, or Indonesian... I've lived in places and seen tae that you won't believe  :o  Swerte pa rin ako at Pinoy ako 'di tulad ng iba.

Hmmm good, but I think what they should have done was make a VIRTUAL DRIVING TEST/SIMULATOR.  ;D Something like an arcade game, but its not a game. Its a system to test the driving capabilites of a person. He's given missions/tasks on the simulator and then graded/rated basing on his performance during the simulation. I think this is a better way to gauge if someone is worthy of a drivers license.  ;D

Some countries use a graduated system (IIRC, Canada --I think). They give a type of license for drivers with a new license, then upgrade the license after a few years and with a good driving record.
