I believe that a 3-way seps has an advantage over a 2-way component in terms of staging and imaging. Since in a 3-way system, the midbass and midrange drivers are separate, you are more flexible in the placement and aiming of these drivers. The possibility of cone break up/distortion is also minimized or even totally eliminated.

In the end, the installation and tuning still plays a big role.

However there is this question that suddenly popped into my mind... If 3-ways are better than 2-ways(assuming that we are comparing the same brand and series) which most of use believe... Why then are the highest end models of some brands only come in 2-ways? Examples of this are the Dynaudio Esotar and Rainbow Reference seps.

We simply attempt to be fearful when others are greedy and to be greedy only when others are fearful.

just sharing my opinion....2 way "easier" for imaging..3-way, better dynamics...if mid bass and mid is too far apart....it will not destroy too much of the imaging....but timing....when a vocal note hits your eardrum....the drum note is just coming in...because your mids are normally closer to your ears and the midbass is down there...plus the fact that lower frequencies travles slower than higher frequencies. what is important is not to have your tweets and you mid too far apart...yeah right...as if its possbile.....well, its about timing and volume adjustments of each then..thats why crossovers have =-3db for the tweets and some even for the mids.....personally i like 2-ways because its cheaper and easier to adjust to get good imaging....and more natural sounding...3 ways can obtain good imaging too but requires more tweaking.....the bass part most of the time destroys the whole imaging of the mids and the tweeter....at least for me...but of course...you can play it louder.....just like a bookshelf speaker and a floor standing for the home...same concept...same pros and cons.....i guess nothing argue about which is better....botom line again, depends on what your looking for!!!!!

Happy Listening!!!
