A lot of car audio gurus told me that i should get an amp for the dub7 with at least 1000x1 @2 ohms so that theoretically when wired at 3ohms it would range around 700-800w but im thinking of having this amp to have more power?

yup the crossover freq is fixed at 90Hz

so what does it mean if fixed yung crossover? is it a good thing or a bad thing that the rating is @12v?

It means that hindi mo pwede baguhin yun freq ng amp, ang pwede lang ay hpf or lpf @90Hz, kaya if gagamitin mo yun amp for sub for an sq setup mataas yun freq, so you'll need an external crossover para mabago yun freq, pero kung more on spl ka pwede na yun 90Hz to accomodate more low freq.

For some it is a good thing na rated @12v ang amp para sigurado ka na yan na yun exact wattage ng amp, kasi anything lower than 12v mahihirapan na yun sasakyan, but sometimes it goes a bit higher than 12v so pag mas mataas yun voltage mataas din yun wattage ng amp.

thanks ajsl. well i think the sub can handle sq tasks very well that i wont need an external crossover. my cousin has been a fan of ppi amps a long time now and to this particular line that ppi produced. he told me that they're even under rated. that would probably come from the actual rating of the amp @ 12v.

This is not always the case, and in this case, it is not.

according to the JL chart, 1000 watts is a little over the optimum level of 12w7, pero wala pa naman sa danger zone, so i think match sila ng sub  

its really nice that PPI rated their amp at 12v, which most car batts and alts can produce realistically..

if this amp has unregulated power supply, it can produce more when presented a higher voltage.. (wow!)

i really hate amps rated at 14.4 volts because I havent tried reaching that level. the most i had was 13.5

Yeah, but that still depends if the amp has a regulated or an unregulated power supply.

If it has regulated power supply, hanggang dun na lang talaga ang ibibigay ng amp. If the amp has unregulated power supply and it claims to produce more power at higher than 12v source, then mas malakas ang ibibigay ng amp.

Withregards to 90 Hz, medyo di na flexible ang amp IMHO. Wala lang, the 90 Hz is not guaranteed to tailor fit into a vehicle's acoustics.

Although may workaround para dito. Set the amp x-over setting to FULL (kung meron) then let the HU perform sub functions, that is if may sub controls iyong HU.
