the idle up function does not seem to engage right away when the aircon turns on.  tuloy, the engine vibrates for a while before it stabilizes.  is there any adjustment that can be made for this?  89 lancer, carbureted 1500 engine...

i'm not familiar with this model pero generally, carbs are usually mechanical and vacuum operated, so check the ff:

- vacuum dashpot sensor
- idle up vacuum -usually naka-attach yan sa carb mismo
- idle up adjusting screw and mechanical shaft - baka stucked up na yan
- check all vacuum lines baka may mga punit somewhere

Sir,
I also have the same problem which is on idling, my car is a 1993 lancer glxi, efi na pero ung sa aircon idle up na modify na into vacuum solenoid, when the AC turns on OK naman na aadjust pero when it turns off bumababa ng husto yung RPM then mag stabilize na after a while. i heard na baka idle speed control daw problema, pwede ba yun ma check? baka may iba ka pang suggestion that i need to check.

ok thanks, I'll check on it... but another question: is it possible to have the idle up engage first before the compressor like on the new efi engines?  para mas smooth yung transition....

i dont think its possible. your compressor's magnetic clutch could already be defective thats why there's a sudden surge in the rpm whenever the compressor engages.

hmmmn... notice ko lang kasi on my dad's GLi na whenever the aircon turns on, the engine idle goes up a little first before the compressor engages... ever since it was brand new...

ow, i think im a bit mixed up. i was thinking that your rpm goes down whenever the compressor engages.

so if ever that is the case, engine is having a hard time coping with the parasitic loss of power that could be due to a worn out bearing/magnetic clutch of the a/c compressor. i hope i didnt confuse you but im sure iy wouldn't hurt if you have your compressor checked na din.
