one word: mahal  ::)

but lets wait for the Evo owners on board to reply for more detail.  ;)

For everyday driving: Mahal

If an SiR can sometimes burn your wallet, wait till you see what this thing can do. I have something similar to an Evo and believe me a couple of hundred bucks only lasts you a few hours of driving.

Oh...... stiff ride ;D Rode on one before. Felt like I was sitting on a truck carrying granite from a quarry. But then, ride stiffness is subjective ::)

Its true identity comes out when you use it on the track on trackdays :) so you will imagine that this car is best on weekends ;)

speedyfix

for everyday driving i would think it's a bit excessive. pero if you feel the need for speed and like taking it to the track then it's the perfect weapon.

maintenance is pretty easy naman. just the normal oil and plugs routine. pero once you start modifying that's when it starts getting expensive:)

kung evo 5 gagawin pang everyday driver... mag budget ka sa clutch nyan, kasi malakas kumain ng clutch mga evos, lalo ng kung stop go traffic...

Paul

i think the evo 7 and 8 are the more liveable evos.

ray, how about your scooby? more liveable than an evo? what's liveable between a GC and GD? let's give inperio the scooby option. there are lots of 2nd hand GC's for sale out there.

inperio

kasi we're planning to get a civic. im thinking evo na lang or integra or civic type R hehe para interesting buhay hahahaha. pero pag ganun pala evo hindi na lang ata mauubos allowance ko sa gas! question lang... baka naman hours lang yung gas kasi hataw ng hataw hehe sympre malakas evo hehe? paano kung normal driving lang talga?

jaySiR

I'd go for the type R if that's the situation. Just my opinion ;)

Yep. The Scooby feels more refined than the Evo. The Evo is the raw deal. Still, I do not recommend an STi for a daily driven car. Maybe a WRX would be a more practical option. Have never ridden any GC though so I cannot conclude which one would be better for everyday use.

Hmmmm.. actually an Integra sounds like a good idea. For me, the B series engines of Honda were made for daily driven cars but have the potential to have lots of fun. Also, these engines were meant to be abused, as in rev them up all the time. ;D And they got good looks too ;)

Oh.... when you say hataw ng hataw. You cannot directly conclude that you won't do that all the time. When you have these cars, you can actually feel them telling you to push it even further, so you end up burning more than what you intend to ;)

Benj

Kawawa ka talaga sa gas kung hataw ka nang hataw sa evo ;D

The GC is a very nice everyday car, have ridden in several WRXs around town, so long as you keep the suspension stock or don't upgrade to really stiff coilovers then it should be a perfect everyday car. Can't say anything about fuel consumption though, my guess is it'll be almost as thirsty as the evo.

An Integra or CTR is always nice, but the price they are selling these for is really outrageous, might as well get an evo or a GC Impreza for that price.
In a world of compromise, some don't.

sorry, that's not true at all.  if you're using a tri-puck racing clutch, then of course ubos agad.  but the stock clutch of an evo can last a very very long time, as long as you don't launch the car.

having said that, early production evo 7's had a documented clutch defect that led to premature clutch wear.  but this was never a problem on earlier models, and certainly has been cured on later evo 7's and the evo 8.

an evo 5 CAN be used as a daily driver, no problem.  here's some things to consider:

FUEL ECONOMY:

if you drive while keeping it reasonably off boost, you can get mileage in the 6km/liter range.

i once drove an entire tankful of gas keeping the car below 4k RPM, and managed just about 7km/liter.

normal driving however (meaning may hataw when you feel like or when the road opens up,) you can expect around 5km/liter.  not great, but a V6 Ford Escape does about 4km/liter in normal driving.

COMFORT:

stock suspension is stiff.  but you get used to it, and its still not as bad as many civics with very harsh aftermarket suspensions.  just don't expect your girlfriend or wife to like it.

Evo 7 is more refined than the 4-6.  But its pretty hard too.  Evo 8's have softer suspension than the 7, so overall they're probably the most comfortable evo's so far.

OTHER OPTIONS

regular Subary WRX is MUCH more refined, and feels significantly better built too, thanks to an interior seems to use more expensive materials.

Type-R civics and integras are viable alternatives, but as someone pointed out, integras and the current Civic Type-R are too expensive for what you get.  in terms of value for money, i think you're better off with an Evo or Scooby, unless you're dead set on a high revving normaly aspirated Type-R motor.

the current Civic Type-R though is an EXCELLENT daily driver.  its super comfortable compared to an Evo, and there's so much room inside.  not bad on the track too.

MAINTENANCE

evo's can be fairly worry and trouble free, as long as properly cared for.  they need regular oil changes at more frequent intervals than normal cars, and they DO need only velocity or blaze, else you run the risk of damaging the engines.

clutches last, but if you launch the car, expect to fry them regularly.  if you do have to replace the clutch, its not cheap-- around P15k plus labor.

brake pads likewise last pretty well in normal driving.  expect pads to go for round P10k and up, depending on spec.  that's for the brembo brakes.  the non-brembo evo's use much cheaper pads.

older evo's (4's and 5's) may start to have some minor problems, but as long as they haven't been too abused, these are relatively easy to diagnose and fix, and don't cost too much.  the stock shocks on these earlier cars may be on the way out, so you want to check for knocking noises from underneath when going slowly.  if you hear "clonking" when turning slowly, that could be CV joints going out, and that's P15k per side.

if the car has been extensively modified or drag-raced though, then you really need to check it over carefully.

in the end, the cars are actually ridiculously strong (they're designed for rallying after all,) and withstand a lot of abuse.  you just need to know what to look for.

ERL Motorwerx know evo's inside outside and upside down, so you could check with them.  Autoplus of course are also experts with Evo's, especially if you're interested in modifying or building a monster machine.

good luck!

Sc0oby

Yup with those option your better off getting an used evo or scooby.  As hesperus stated they are pretty reliable and strong as long you take care of them properly and dont really abuse them.

As for a scooby just run stock suspension as its more comfortable. Normal wrx expect a fuel comsumption of 6km/L while the Sti engine can run into 5km/L. These are based on my experience under normal economy driving. Expect it to go worse if you have an heavy foot. ;D

Also forgot the mention the ctr fuel economy is expected to be around 6-7km under economy driving and expect it to worsen to around 5km/l if you have a heavy foot.  :)

5-6km is not that bad. a accord 2.0 manual goes about 6-7. a matic accord 2.2 about 4-5 lang. hmmm.. napapaisip ako ah haha ;D there's this guy selling his evo5 16tkm lang stock daw with ralliart parts. 970T is that a good price? ano ba going rate niyan?
the evo8 is too expensive for me...i mean a 2.8m car hehe sa 2.8m bili na lang ako ng isang accord isang civic isang expe hehe ;D
