Newbie ... need help!!

Guys i'm new here and i would like to ask for your opinions regarding my ride. i have a stage1 SiR and i've recently replaced my camshafts to b16b. would there be any problems if i didn't change my valve springs and retainers? im only using my ride for daily driven purposes and i just wanted a more aggressive vtec. hope you guys could help me out. thanks!

Theoretically, there shoudln't be any problems with your setup and that the stock valvesprings will be able to serve its purpose fine :) If you will be changing it to more agressive cams soon, then you will have to change your valvesprings and retainers as well :)

Nice setup you have there :D I used to have that kind of setup too (Well, at least I was made to believe I had ;) )

You will need aftermarket valve springs or oem double springs to compensate with the more aggressive cam profile to avoid valve float.

Are you still using the stock rev limit? If you are, you might be able to get away without them. But just to be on the safe side, dual valvesprings and titanium retainers are still recommended.

haha by the way thanks R-A-Y! what do you suggest i should add next? and yes i'm just using the stock comp box so maybe i think it would be fine.

guys, i have a question. what happens if you do experience a valve float for instance, would your engine blow up or something? would your car automatically stop running immediately if this happened? all your replies would be really helpful... thanks in advance

When you say engine blow up, it doesnt necessarily mean big explosion plus loud noises. Using an aftermarket cam without beefing up the valvetrain MAY cause engine damage because of wear and inefficieny of the components. The springs/retainers/valves may crack, break, bind or drop. But its very hard to tell, so when you feel the motor is acting abnormally(IF it hasnt died yet), do not run it anymore. Take the motor apart and check if everything is ok.

Valve float means that the valve starts to accelerate faster and then move away from the cam-follower that keeps it in position..  The two should always be in contact but float happens when your valve springs are not stiff enough to keep the valve in place.  This would occur at high RPM because as RPM increases, so does the acceleration on the valve, that allows it to overcome the stock valve spring's force (because of lower spring constant compared to upgraded springs).  

You would likely break off a piece of the valve stem which may cause the valve not to seat properly and be hit by the cylinder.  In a high compression engine like the B16 this is even more likely because of the small combustion chamber at TDC (top dead center).  Anyways, this will not result in a massive explosion, but you would probably hear metallic sounds and then your car may die because the contact could harm the piston by making a crack or hole.  Your engine would then lose compression in that cylinder and probably stop running..

Repair will cost a lot of $$$- you're looking at pistons and valves and engine having to come out..  If you're "lucky" only the valve train will be destroyed.  Probably better to be safe and get the springs if you can.

 dude when do you exactly hear these metallic sounds? at low, mid or high rpm range?

You'll hear this metallic sound all over once the stem cracks or the pistons get damaged. It's usually some clunking and grinding. Really bad. Your car will lose a significant amount of power and the engine can just die.

As to your question on what to get next, I would suggest getting those stiffer valvesprings and retainers :) I bet after getting those aftermarket cams, you would want to get adjustable cam gears and a VAFC, after that a good dyno session once you would want to adjust the advance and retard settings using the adjustable cam gears :)

That's gonna be a lot of moolah my friend, but I am envious of you for having this oppotunity because this was supposed to be the path that I was planning to take for my car ;D
