Yeah, medyo ironic since we are marking the 20th anniv. of the day we kicked out a brutal SOB and now this.  Masaklap dito is naaffect na naman yung peso. We sure have an uncanny knack for shooting ourselves in the foot.  ::)

Marcos got away with Martial Law for so many years because he was a legitimate ruler.

As for GMA  :-X I might be charge for inciting to sedition/rebellion or whatever. I will just exercise my right to privacy!  ;D

state of emergency means the state is under threat and must be protected...question is, from whom? has THIS STATE protected the common good to begin with?

let's see....protect it from soldiers defecting....oh, yeah, the same soldiers killed by guns and bullets the generals were selling to the Abu Sayyaf! not to mention, Garcia only got 10 years in prison! Man! 10 years for stealing a hundred million plus?!?!  :o :o :o somebody sign me up, I'd laugh at how much people in med or law school will earn in 10 years!

ok, another example...protect it from civilians? oh, yeah, the same civilians that they send abroad for remittances and cant hire Johnny Cochran types to keep them off Singaporean gallows and Saudi prisons? the same civilians they hose down while doing a prayer rally? the same civilians who they bury with too much taxes, then use the taxes to get a good credit rating, then borrow money, then STEAL that money? the same civilians in whose name they borrowed that money, that they STEAL?

Oh, yeah, sue me. but on several counts, I've got these bastards on HIGH TREASON. with every moment spent bickering and politicking they are leaving this country weaker than ever; isnt it any surprise why China can lord over the Spratlys? politicians are so busy with all this bull they can shoot rallyists but cant buy frigates and bombers to even up the damn saber rattling.

The Leyte governor said it all:

Those making all these disturbances are so selfish.

That depends. If we're talking about hte economic losses, let's examine it this way.

first, why do we need a good credit rating? so Arroyo can borrow money. why borrow money that WE CANT PAY? simple, she'll STEAL that money, but WE, THE FILIPINO NATION, are signed to pay for it. nothing better than borrowing in someone else's name!

second, "investors"? if we're talking about FDI's like call centers, think again people. sure they create jobs. but face the reality: they wouldn't want the economy IMPROVING too, because if it did, then they won't be saving any money. they're creating a new bourgois that would look down on their brethren who did not make use of their "opportunity", and would support the presence of these foreigners here. just like spaniards who brought in "religion" and "enlightenment" and used the provincial catholics to oppress the rest. Or the Americans who brought in "education" and trained them to be lawyers who made the damn laws inproportionately complicated in relation to the population's educaitonal attainment.

If we're talking about the stock market, think again: these foreigners are THAT fickle. and yet we want to depend on that, despite their fickleness. its like marrying someone who'd say, "only 25 minutes? last time you lasted 26 mins!" or like Estrada's last mistress, who left her husband just because that fata$$ had a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$$.

We cannot depend on the foreigners, we only have OURSELVES...not individually, but as a Filipino Nation.

Ok. Terrific.

So what do you suggest?

Protege Mania

for one, start with land reform. if here in our own soil the most basic resource is under control of a cartel what else can we expect? if we need to import vegetables from China we truly are deep hell....it doesn't seem too serious, but think about it. our very sustenance depends too much on what the elites do with land. they either oppress the peasants or they make golf courses out of arable land and quarry national treasures like the chocolate hills.

second, DO NOT borrow, and might as well not pay our debts. Argentina's looking fine to me (and, no, get more updated than what they showed on Evita). think of it this way: its not about how much you start with, its how you can make the best of it. so its pointless to borrow when hte elites will steal it anyway.

third, get rid of the elites. Im talking dictatorial seizures by a new people's government. we should avoid what marcos and cory did, reappropriating lang to their damn cronies. God, I cant believe that pretentious, Victorian Catholic imaged witch still has credibility. I mean, how come people think that a President who had farmers shot in Mendiola should be kicked out, but a former president who had farmers shot in her family's "property" should be someone we listen to in a time of crisis?

Not only did we let Marcos live, but his family lived to make a comeback. now I don't know about what they teach in History class these days, but Im sure Louis XVI never came back nor did his heirs precisely because they were DEAD.
"Terror without Virtue is inhuman; Virtue without Terror is Impossible". If they don't return what they stole (Im sure the Swiss wont, they are not afraid of us), might as well make sure they dont live to enjoy them. I say it should be another EDSA, but this time, it should end in a massive politicide. then we start moving towards participatory democracy rather than representative. Hugo Chavez' land reform looks good from here.

Its not as simple as it sounds, true, but then again, think about it. we haven't tried this before. plus, "investing" isnt all about money. ask any person in Beijing about the Mao years, and despite all the bull they went through, most likely they'd say it was worth it. Mao was an economic blunder, but without him, Deng Xiaoping (whose policies are still in effect) wouldn't have had the power to put his ideas into effect. heck, he probably would not have been studying in Paris and ended up thinking as he did without the Party. we're so afraid of pain we dont take risks and actually bleed to death ever so slowly as a trade off. might as well make others bleed in our place.

Siops

I think you just suggested communism for our country

Anyway i think we really need an iron hand to rule our country something that goes in the line of Singapore, look where they are now...  And frankly if another EDSA happens people will really think this is the only solution to each adminsitration that doesnt make them happy... were never gonna get out of this cylce  :(
