hi. i have a toyota corolla 2000 GLi na white. i really like my car, the suspension's great (except a little noise i just noticed lately), the aircon's fine, i like the way it looks, i have the altis mags on it, and the fuel consumption is just great.

however, parang ayoko na talaga ng manual :( parang my car's hard to make timpla and it takes such a conscious effort to have a smooth acceleration from a full stop. it's even harder when there are other people on board, and worst when it's even on an incline (hanging). i thought it was just my imagination but when i drove a cousin's laspag na corolla (same GLI like mine), and it was so easy. our 10 year old owner jeep that we use in our mountain property is easier to make timpla. after driving those 2 cars i just knew something's wrong, and it's unacceptable those 2 cars were easier to drive. ako inaalagaan ko kotse ko tapos mas okey yung kanila i-drive? no way! tapos i drove my friend's CRV na manual, oh my god it's so smooth parang matic! that point on i really felt like my car was junk na talaga :'(

i had my intake manifold cleaned and had my clutch assembly replaced at speedy and improved a bit, super soft clutch, but it's still such an effort to make timpla. i went to different shops for them to look at it lang and they all said okay lang yan. but i really don't think it's okay :'(

so i'm going to speedy soon and if talagang hindi magawa, i think i'll just trade my car for a matic car. i hope there's a matic one like mine na GLi. but i dunno coz i want to keep my wheels, bago pa shocks ko, and i like my car's color which is white.

any comments? what should i check? i want my car to feel like a new car  :'( if hindi talaga magawa, i guess i'll just try to replace it with a matic car  :'(

i was reading about overhauling: An OVERHAULED ENGINE is an engine which has been disassembled, cleaned, inspected, repaired as necessary and tested using FAA approved procedures. -http://www.mattituck.com/new/articles/ohterms.htm

if i'm to want my car feeling like a new one, should i overhaul it? parang mejong drastic na ata haha. i hope maayos nila migs yung nafefeel ko sa car ko

just curious: how long would an engine overhaul take for a car like mine? and how much?

first of all, you might "NOT" get that good gas mileage from a matic corolla.. secondly, the pull (hatak) might not be as strong also, lalo na in heavy loads..

when you had your car serviced, anong sabi ng mga mechaniko? bad clutch? dirty intake manifold?

what did you mean by clutch assembly? including clutch disc/pressure plate and release bearing?

what do you mean by hard to make timpla? does the clutch slips? or bigla na lang sya nag grab na parang on/off switch lang?

have they checked your flywheels as well? baka warp na.. it will also cause uneven shudder/chattering/jerking

medyo malayo, pero check na din mga engine support/mount na near the tranny..

uy wow ambilis ah :) thanks for the reply!

hmm.. i was telling migs about it before and he suggested that i have my intake manifold cleaned. and then it didn't do much help, and i noted that there are times that it's easier to make timpla and others it's just hard to make timpla. he then suggested to do something with the clutch. i can't exactly remember, but i remember it cost me quite a lot haha. i'll look for the receipt tomorrow. it helped a bit, sarap the clutch ang lambot. sometimes it's still harder to make timpla.

kakaasar lang kasi when i drove those other cars i mentioned parang i was so shocked as to how pangit of an experience i get when i drive mine :(

when i say it's hard to make timpla, it takes such an effort for a smoother acceleration from a full stop. i'd have to accelerate slowly or it'd parang stutter (i think it's called tope), i'd have to step on the gas a lot more para a bit smoother. it's like the feeling that you're not putting enough gas when making timpla, that feeling that the engine's gonna die and it's stuttering. the hassle is that when it's bagong start lang, it's easier but after a while driving, i notice it gets more pangit to make timpla

hmm sige thanks i'll ask speedy to check those flywheels thingamajig and the support/mount :) what are flywheels nga pala?

i hope i make sense in trying to explain how it feels driving my car ;D

hmm seeing the troubleshooting guide na sticky:

XI. Engine stumbles on acceleration:

1. Spark plugs fouled. -i don't think so naman
2. Fuel injection system faulty.
3. Fuel filter clogged.
4. Incorrect ignition timing.
5. Intake manifold leak. -cleared i guess

so i guess feeling ko 2, 3 or 4! shux sana maayos ;D excited nako to go to speedy!

kris ikaw ba yan? ;D

anyway, from what you said, your problem lies only upon engaging your clutch right? so clearly it's a drivetrain problem. if your problem is in the engine, as listed above, dapta kahit nakaneutral ka or fully stopped, palyado dapat engine mo or it's misfiring (symptoms of no. 2,3,4). having changed your clutch assembly, you said that conditions have improved. what you missed i think is your engine mounts. coz with a busted mount, papalag ang engine mo upon engaging of your clutch. it could also be the source of the suspension noise that you've recently discovered.

I had the same problem sa lancer ko before.

What I did is I asked my friends to try driving my car and comment on the acceleration from full stop. Suprisingly lahat sila nag drive ok naman.  :(  Sinabihan ako palpak lang timpla ko. Press a bit more daw sa gas bago i-engage yung clutch.

Pero the funny thing is one time i forgot to tell the car wash boy na wag igalaw yung seat position ng driver seat. KAya pag balik ko sa kotse too close na yung seat sa steering wheel. So inadjust ko pa. I remember medyo asar pa nga ako at di ko nabilin.

Pero when I adjusted the seat. Nagulat ako nung nilalabas ko kotse sa carwash smooth na andar niya. Unlike before na parang napapanginig ko buong kotse kaya nag do-double clutch pa ako.

"son of a" i told myself. I drove around for an hour from tayuman to Retiro To G. Araneta to Quezon Ave then pabalik sa amin. OK na OK na. Wala nang sabit.

So baka you might consider adjusting your seat a bit (A bit near, less inclined, etc). Baka lang po it may help. It wont hurt checking all your engine support din kung buo pa.

Sharing experience lang po. Good luck  :)

when we replaced the pressure plate, disc and bearing your flywheel checked out allright so no need to worry about that.

each car will have a different feel to them. baka ganun lang talaga yung sa car mo? let's see if there's anything else we can do pa tho :)

I happened to come across lang a topic on clutch (actually racing clutch replacement how-to) sa isang car magazine na binili ko (back-issue siya) last Saturday.

It was written there that the Pilot Bushing should be replaced outright when replacing clutch daw. It affects daw the drivetrain which will give the car yung jitter feel kung di pinalitan.

Anyway i'll give the reference magazine bukas at i'll type it word by word. I dunno if applicable ba ito sa ating kotse since ang orientation ko eversince ay bearing, clutch plate and disc ang laging pinapalitan. But i just thought you should know baka it may help.

dude

in using the same car now.

actually it was my dads car and it was super unmaintained.

i had that icky feeling also when releasing the clutch... had the clutch change since it was due.

still there...

then it was still there, had my engine mounts replaced coz they were broken when i checked them.

still there...

what made the most difference is the tie rods and ball joints.

damn... they were so worn out they would move when you first release the clutch.

now its ok for an everyday car.
