SQ vs. SPL

Mga Chiefs,

We all know SQ= sound quality, we all know SPL=sound pressure level. One thing is not clear though, at least for me.

What is really the threshold of SPL? In other words, at what aggregate system power makes a set-up already "into SPL" coming from SQ? 500w? 999w?

Another issue is, is it really SQ OR SPL, can it not be SQ and SPL?

Pls. shed light on this matter my esteemed colleagues.

Thanks,

man...its like comparing basketball with soccer...both have goals.......iba lang ang way kung paano mag score....

dont wanna take anything away from the spl guys....coz sometimes, i do turn the volume up a bit....kahit alam ko na di talaga ito pang-boom boom......pero still, both require patience, a little know how and lots of money ;)

Raymond

Actually SPL systems are measured not only by power class (watts) but also by SPL (sound pressure levels). Kung ilang dB na ang na-poproduce.

-Andrew-

i think they're very different in a sense that iba din yun crowd nila eh. of course there are some people who are in between pero kung talagang hardcore SQ ka, it's kinda hard to be SPL. some people like to be in the middle but most of the time, they won't excel in SQ or SPL competitions since medyo hybrid yun systems nila.

We simply attempt to be fearful when others are greedy and to be greedy only when others are fearful.

WaZ

meron akong nakita na system na nanalo both sq and spl , yung kay logic b4

8 or 9 subs sa likod tapos macrom seps sa harap  :)

Raymond

Diba sa IASCA before they have this SQ+ category (SQ and SQL). If you feel you have the dBs puwede ka ding sumali sa SQL competition aside from the normal SQ routines.

Good example of this IMHO is boss vic's hatch :)

Chiefs,

If we were to set a standard locally, what range of total power must drive an SQ system in a closed cabin of a car?

Your opinion guys?

sirs,
wat do u think of this for sq?

alpine 7890e for hu
alpine mrp200 mono amp for the sub
alpine flex 4 75x4 for speakers sa loob
dls r6 seps for front speakers
dls ps6 for rear speakers
rockford he10 sealed for the subs

comments please...baka may mas maganda kayo na masusugest for this level/budget..salamat.. :)

why not use the stock rear speakers for rear fill and go up6 or ur6 for the front speakers.  tapos, you can use the hu to run the rear speakers, then get a more powerful 2 channel amp to run the front speakers (like 100x2, since 150w RMS yung UP6, at higher pa yung sa UR6).

ah i see.  well, you might wanna ask the experts on the effects of bridging seps.  i can't comment on that yet, hehehe.

yung likod naman kasi pang-fill lang, IMO, but primarily your sound should come from the front.  if you put seps in the rear as well, chances are these could pull your staging area to the back of the car.  now, so that the staging area won't be pulled to the back, you'll have to fade forward.  so in effect, medyo masasayang yung rear seps mo.

a oki sir, onga no..hehe cge sa front ako magfofocus, kaso may isa pang problem..kung gagamit ako ng magagandang seps for the front baka di ko din cla mamaximize kasi di ko kaya magpakick panel, di kaya masayang un?

well, think about it this way, you'd still be getting better performance from the higher level seps than the entry-mid level seps given the same position.  and so far, DLS UP6 (around P10K) is the cheapest mid-level component speaker (comparing DLS, Dynaudio and Focal).  you will get your money's worth.

Naka bridged ung UP6 ko, using channels A and B of two amps to support left and right. So far OK naman !

Rear fill Ko Classic lang ng DLS.  I'm for SQ.
