In a way yes - they are/were used as military vehicles.

Unique shape eh? Like a shoe box with 4 wheels.

I think it's more in the same league as the HMMVV, and the Volvo C303, than the MB Unimog. The Unimog is bigger, heavier, and more powerful.
I helped guide a Pinzgauer over a trail once, and it's about the same width and height of current Land Cruisers. But longer of course.

Check out this site so you can compare yourself:

Very early in my childhood, I used to dream about that vehicle.  If I am not mistaken, it was a joint exercise by Steyr, Daimler, and Puch.  The drivetrain and suspension were advanced for its time and it had a certain appeal in my young eyes at that time.  But hey what do I know, i still think the Samurai is cute.  i must have unorthodox taste.  I remember that the articulating rear drive was fascinating on the early models I saw.  if I had the money and the opportunity, I wouldnt mind owning one.  That, and a Lamborghini LM002.  Yeehah!!  Can you say BAD BOY???
Everything we do on earth leaves a track....May they be one's we'd

Great military truck and not too big....

They are street-legal (somehow) and are for sale in AZ at around $10-20k.  Some are fully restored.

DTNS - Relax dude. Just clarifying that a Pinzgauer is not exclusively 6x6. Your previous post made that impression.

If you read my last post - I wrote "But yes like the C303 they also had a 6x6 version"

Meaning : Like the Volvo C303, Pinzgauers also had the 6x6 version.

So, I did not need any proof. You did. ;) ;D

Thanks for the pics though. I appreciate the effort :-*

So. Why were you asking if the Pinz is any good? Buying one? Curious? Inherited one?

DTNS

buying one? nah! just curious.  ;D

but if I had the money and the chance to buy one then why not?  ;)

Let me pick your mind then...  :)
Say you shelled out $9,800 to buy one, and also found out that it won't be taxed very much 'coz it's classified as a work truck (or maybe as an AUV). But what would you do with it?

Load your family and friends and go on road trips? It's not going to be very comfy. In fact, it's downright spartan.
Modify it for competition? It's relatively low horsepower that it might finish last most of the time...
Show it off to ____'s friends?  ;) I don't think they'll appreciate this vihicle's inner beauty.
Use it as a farm truck? Hmmm, I think this'll fit it very well.
As an expedition vehicle? Very good idea too, except where will you get parts when something breaks?

Ahem... OK. sorry ha, I can't help but amuse myself....
