guys, what are the basic things to do for me to enhance the power of my samurai engine? like filters? headers? etc... do you have ideas? ..........................tnx...

First of all, let's get down to basics.  If it's an old Samurai or a 2nd hand one, you might want to do the following things initially.

1.  Replace the plugs
2.  have the carb cleaned and tuned well
3.  Check your ignition wires and replace if worn
4.  Check your ignition coil and distributor
5.  Replace your air filter with a new stock one
6.  Flush old fluids and replace
7.  Have a mechanic check valve condition and rocker
    arm play
8.  if you plan to open up the head, check for carbon
    deposits and have them cleaned
9.  Check general condition of all belts and pulleys
10.  Check if battery output is up to spec 12-14 volts

I am telling you this because this is the best way to make sure your vehicle is performing at its level best.  it is pointless to make engine modifications if the motor isn't healthy in the first place.  You'll be surprised how many engines out there are enhanced with modifications despite the poor condition of the most basic components.  Now if you've gone through the list and know that the components are in good working order, you can proceed to modifying with the following items. I will enumerate them in the order that i think is practical and most beneficial.

1.  Headers - Calmini and Doug Thorley make them.  Petroworks too.  You can also have them custom made locally. Get a 4-2-1 design because this best complements your basic engine design.

2.  If budget allows have a 2 inch stainless exhaust with stainless mufflers made.  These will last longer especially if you go out on the trail with any frequency.  They will be less susceptible to rust.  A frequent problem of mild steel exhausts that get submerged in water.

3.  You can get aftermarket filters but the stock one in its original housing is best if you plan to go trailing.  The exposed aftermarket ones run the risk of sucking in water if you do a water crossing.  You might also be able to find a K&N unit that drops into your airbox.

4.  Good ignition wires and a multispark ignition system if budget allows. (Jacobs electronics, MSD, etc).  The biggest help to a carbureted engine is an ignition that can burn fuel optimally since we are more prone to flooding.

5.  mild cams - calmini sells these too.  they alter your power and torque curve to be more pronounced on low to midrange rpm where this vehicle is more likely to be used.

6.  Weber 32/36 DGEV.  This is a more aggressive carb that will add some power to your vehicle if jetted properly and will complement your cam.

7.  If you are swimming in money, you can also get a supercharger for your engine or better yet a 1.6 motor.  The list can go on and on and will only be limited by how much you are willing to spend.  i think the items above should keep you busy enough for now.

Hope this helps.

Bibigat ng bahagya yung steering mo depende sa laki at klase ng gulong na ilalagay mo.  Kung mga 30" na Mud tires, hindi masyadong nakaklaki ng braso ;)

Franky,

Try 199 offroad house. They have a suzuki there named KERMIT. she's a modified suzuki with a 1600 block, 1300 cylinder heads, Calmini headers, Calmini cams, Jacob's electronic ignitions, Webber 32/36 with a Calmini suspension and a 33" TSL superswamper, Yes this rig competes well in the hardcore arena.......
