Richard Gomez

Congratulations on your great informative site.  :) It's my first time to post here.

Which is a better diesel engine oil for use with my diesel Land Cruiser 100? I plan to use mineral oil since I change the oil every 3,000 kms.

1. Caltex Delo Gold Multigrade 15W-40 API CH-4/SJ/ACEA E3

2. Castrol GTD 15W-40 API CH-4

3. Shell Rimula X 15W-40 API CH4/ACEA E3

4. Petron Rev-X Trekker 15W-40 API CH-4/ACEA E5

5. Sea Oil Deo Turbo Max 15W-40 API CI-4/SL/ACEA E5

6. Mobil Delvac MX 15W-40 API CH-4/SJ/ACEA E3

Your comments are highly appreciated. Thank you.  :)

I'll go for caltex.

Since they all have API-CH4, i think their all good.  Its just a matter of brand preference.

They are also strongly supporting the 4x4 events in the country.

Richard Gomez? Hmm... :)

Anyway, though I don't have any experience with it, Sea Oil Deo Turbo Max 15W-40 has the highest rating with CI-4 and SL....

In my personal opinion, all oils on your list are top-grade and should perform well on your LC100...

Aldee

I'll choose "ELF" , I've used the product when i had my trooper, less smoke and still clear after 5,000 kms.

Brent

Taas nga ng rating for the Sea Oil Deo Turbo Max.

You might wanna add the new Caltex Delo Gold to your choices. Synthetic blend oil siya.

Richard, I currently have a 1HD-FT engine on my 80-series Land Cruiser, which is the direct, but not old, ancestor of the 1HD-FTE on your 'Cruiser.

The previous owner of my HDJ-80 used Shell oil in it, and it was good. However, I read the tech specs of Mobil Delvac and it was better, so I started using it. Besides, I got several gallons for free when my 'Cruiser won the April 2003 photo/essay contest in www.mobil1.com  ;D

Anyway, I've recently read about the properties of Amsoil, and it's got even better tech specs vs Mobil1. In fact, a testimony that I saw for myself recently is that a buddy of mine in Los Angeles opened up his 1HD-T to replace the big end bearings, and he said the oil did not cake nor had any sludge --the insides of the engine looked brand new! I must admit that it maybe because his engine was modified to have a secondary bypass oil filter, that must have helped the Amsoil quite a bit. Additionally, diesel experts in our club from NZ and AU testify that the chemical composition of Amsoil was better suited for Japanese engines, and they've given me oil analysis numbers for my own study.

So my recommendation is, stick with Mobil Delvac. Unless Amsoil is available there in 'Pinas *and* you've studied it's benefits too?

BTW, I use Mobil1 synth oil on the gas engine (i.e. 2UZ-FE) of my 100-series Land Cruiser.

Amsoil makes excellent products with the highest industry specifications.

Amsoil used to be available in the Philippines and I met with the distributor representatives when I was working at Volvo.  Though I recommended Amsoil as an alternate oil to Mobil 1 for Volvo automobiles, no customer would ask for it.

I think Amsoil never gained a following in the Philippines and is no longer available...

Go for the mobil. its the best when it comes to diesel engines. runner-ups goes to Shell.

Arnold

OO nga mas gusto ko ang performance nung amsoil kaso ang gastos naman kung magpapadala pa ako from states ala na kasi d2 eh.
Bad trip meron pa ba r2 nun??
Pls help naman.

I have used 4 brands of lubricants before, from the imported Pennzoil, Caltex Delo, Castrol and finally Elf, and one thing i can say is by far, Elf takes the cake when it comes to oil life and cleanliness of the engine, aside from the increase in torque and the noticable change in fuel consumption. I do recommend Elf Performance Trophy DX 15w40 for diesel engines, with or without turbo, and for the gasoline is the Elf Super Sporti XP 20w50, but most of my friends and customers uses the Elf Molygraphite 15w40 (special blend of oil consisting of Molybdenum and Graphite)  for the its beneficial thermal stabilizers, which maintains the engine's temperature at par, they had sworn that it has given them some assurance that the engine will be able to finish a track during a race.

ted

but ELF is now owned by the TOTAL? do u still think those currently labeled ELF is not TOTAL?

ABCmotorparts

Yes Ted, ELF is owned by TOTAL, but lubricants are still produced by 2 different divisions up to now. Just like BP (British Petroleum) was bought by Castrol, still they produce different products they have the same management but different in production. Sorry to be very one sided ha, kasi I have been using ELF for over 7 or 8 years na kasi e, and it dahil diyan, ako ang isa sa dealers nito sa nueva ecija, which up to now is one of the top seller lubricants dito sa area ko. Pero one thing I can assure is that hindi ako napahiya sa mga nirekomendahan ko ng product na ito. Thanks guys...

roydok

Napansin ko pong ito yata ang highest spec diesel engine oil sa market at SAE 15W-40, API CI-4/SL, ACEA E5 and Global DHD-1 (combination of CH-4, E5 and JASO DH-1). Maganda ba ang quality nito compared with the subok brands like Caltex, Shell, Petron, Castrol and Mobil? Is it better? I plan on putting it in my diesel rides.

Salamat po.  :)

You might also want to consider Liqui-Moly 10W/40 semi-synthetic. I'm using it in my Ford Ranger TDI 4X4 XLT and pretty happy with it. :)
