sorry for my ignorance guys.  i've had a simota air intake for my galant for a while now.  i've always thought it is cared for like a k&n filter, where it has to be oiled after cleaning, before use.  in fact i use the k&n cleaner and oil.  but i read in another site that it doesn't have to be oiled at all?  is this true?  if so, could i have been damaging my engine all this time?   :o

any re-usable air filters must be oiled inorder to effectively trap tiny particles most often dusts. non-lubricated filters tend to spoil engine oil faster leading you to more frequent oil changes.

tama si clyde, just continue your routine... it's the oil that traps the dirt

Those that do not need oiling are dry mesh type of air filters (Like the Blitz ( ??? ) and the APEXi) Oiling them will restrict the air flow and volume since they were not designed to be such.

You will do fine with the periodic cleanup and oiling of the filter since Simotas use an oil based filtration method :)

Hi GP,

You could use a standard motor oil and apply a little bit by a soft brush to your filter. Not to much.Just a few cents ;D

Or if you have the budjet you buy the branded cleaning kit

cheers!

better opt with the suitable filter oil for your application...there are shops who carry simota oil and cleaner....the cleaning and oiling instructions are already there in the package..
