mga peeps, especially sa mga old schoolers, nasubukan na ba ninyo i-convert ang radiator fan ng old school ride ninyo to electrical? yung parang sa modelo na sasakyan na may thermal switch na umaandar lang pag mainit na yung radiator? ano ba pros and cons nito or mas maganda ba kung stick to mechanical? yung mechanical kasi lagi na lang umaandar pag start ng engine kasi mounted sa pulley eh.. help please

sir,

i've than that before in our silver ed corona. after a while, i put back the mechanical fan. mashado kasing nakakadrain ng electricity yung kinabit na radiator fan ko eh. I just opted for an additional smaller auxillary fan placed at the front of the radiator where I can manually switch on especially during heavy traffic.

i think mas maganda kung meron kang thermostat circuit that senses the desired temperature then triggers or actuates the fan instead na u have to switch on everytime that u feel it's getting hot under the bonnet  :)

here's an electronic circuit i found. i have not tried this personnaly but with regards to your project, you may give it a try.

pay attention to the LED 1 which you can trigger a relay that will switch on your intended load which is the fan itself.

you might find other circuits relevant here.

why would you convert your radiator fan to electrical? its designed that way for RWD cars. if overheating is your problem then check the cooling system.

my friend's vannete had overheating problems also. the "kanto mekaniko" suggested to add another aux fan while the problem was only the main fan's (engine driven) "clutch" or something that engages the fan to spin faster.

imo, its better to stay away from conversions as much as possible.

elvin, my car is the successor of the saturn. astron.

clutch fan tawag dun. these spin at variable speeds depending on the engine speed. kung sira na kaya pa minsan i-repair by replacing the silicone oil inside. minsan tho di na so palit nalang.

most l300's, pajeros, starex's and other big cars have this. as well as suv's like the expedition...
