there has been a study last year about the performance of masteral graduates and those who didn't take up masters but was trained in-house (in the company), take note that the companies were fortune 500 companies and they found out that those who didn't take up masters were actually performing better than people who had a masters degree.

but this doesn't mean na walang kwenta ang masters degree. before it was all hype, and super taas ng wage gap ng mga nakatapos ng masters from those who didn't. nowadays having a masters degree has its "wow" and "ahh"s but not as much as before.
We simply attempt to be fearful when others are greedy and to be greedy only when others are fearful.

Depende pa rin.

In some positions, having a Master's Degree is a must.

It depends sa job mo and industry mo. If you are in the I.T. industry, mas maganda pa ng kumuha ka na lang ng certifications such as MCP, MCSE, etc.

I have an MBA and only have it because it was a requirement for me to get promoted to Senior Management Level.

I know some MBA grads (from AIM) that do poorly in the realworld as compared to those that do not have one.

Again depende pa rin sa yo.

Really?  There are really companies (apart from the govt) that actually require this?   ??? Hmmmm....

i have a MS degree.  and honestly, it's wasted on my current job.  but it's actually the MS degree that got me my current job.. how ironic.

in mapua, they removed all professors without MS degrees.

let's face it, MS degree can't hurt.

advantage talaga ng masteral is:

a) if you plan to be be within the academics, like pol sci or philo. teaching with graduate degrees get you higher wages, plus you might get paid to speak in certain events or on TV, or you can competently write a book on certain subjects (n/a here, alam naman natin na sa kultura natin .

b) re-employment (unless you got discredited in the academe, meron na isa sa UP faculty). Outside the academe, napansin ko lang na kung aalis ka sa isang company, kapag over 30 ka na medyo mahirap maghanap ng trabaho, unless ang taas ng position mo bago ka umalis or may additional graduate degrees ka.

i hope to take and finish my masters (MBA) before 30.

Pros: Good for resume; good for promotion; good for feeling of achievement/ accomplishment; requirement for some jobs.

Cons:  Good schools are quite costly (i.e. AIM or Universities abroad); some Masterals require full time, hence one would need to stop working (lost income in the short term).

I agree than in some industries lalo na IT, one could be better off with certifications.

well, it all depends on your job and your career path. Its true some government positions require MS degree of some sort. di ka mapropromote pag wala. ex. to be a general in the pnp you need a MS degree. But then again, they could just pay off the professor hehehe.

my advice... discuss with your boss or employer what would be good for you in the short term and long term(on your current job or company) and discuss with him your career goals or plans. what you really like to do, what you plan to achieve. But if don't plan to stay there for the long haul, then you'd have to review your overall career plan. for example, if you're going to be a technical or managerial person. But in general, it does help to have a title moreover if you are certified. You'd be more flexible in the long-term.

Yes. I does help.

We only live once and you know, we should never stop learning.

From a simple "diskarte" learned from a veteran saleman, to street smarts to more advanced business techniques and methods learned from taking masters at Lasalle or Ateneo.

You'll never know when the situation arises that important knowledge gained from masters can be used.

Say for example a business deal or proposal to supply a huge company its raw materials, it cannot be avoided that heads may want to take a look at your education and early achievements.

Or perhaps a career move to transfer or apply for a position which you were eyeing for such a long time. Shempre, hindi maiiwasan na tignan ang edu background mo.

Or when leading a company, or an important decision you have to take, doon na papasok ang lahat ng natutunan mo sa libro at sa personal experience.

In the end as you progress in life, you are more open, more flexible to touch different career paths.

You can run a business and also be a consultant for starting businesses.

During your 40's you might be called to serve a government position, helping out the country with your business/economic skills.

You're rich and you've grown your company already to gigantic proportions, leaving it to your sons and daughters, you then decide to teach the youth what you once learned during their age, finally deciding to teach highschool or college students at UP or Ateneo.

My advice, take it, wala naman mawawala sayo except for a couple of thousand pesos and a few hours per week.  :)

Goodluck. :)
