The brakes are adequate.  Baka naman galing sa sports car iyang nagsabing pangit ang brakes.

Try doing a test drive and judge for yourself to be sure.  :)

^true that. fortuner's brakes are jus fine. mejo malambot lang pedals but if you really want to stop the way you want it, she really does. Hindi naman siguro papasa yan sa safety standards pag ganun ka hina brakes nya.

Re: the suspension. well sorry to say this but it's true, the fortuner is a bit bouncier than other suv's. If i recall correctly, the salesdood said to me it uses the same suspension as the  Prado. Prado is around 300kg heavier than fortuner- using the same suspension on a lighter vehicle will____. fill in the blanks

Otherwise, the stiff suspension was done purposely. The salesdood showed me a vid on how a fortuner handles curves. it hugged the turns really nicely. Then he showed me the pathfinder's handling and it wasnt as good.

Secondly, the fortuner is built to last. 2 days ago, i took it for a 100km pure offroad driving hopping around sand dunes. Met some fellow pinoy there as well, and was an AI forumer i think. (Sup, dude in the Wrangler! nice ride!) So, when i went home, it drove like nothing happened. Not a squeak or a softened suspension. And this was like my 10th(?) trip on offroad driving.

too bad i lost my exhaust tip on that last trip. :(

re: modding the suspenion. dont do anything to soften it. it's perfect as it is. jus my suggestion.

leaf spring kasi yung likod nya kaya matagtag... u cant really do much about it.hehehehe

Mr. Single, I don't have anything personal against you, but would you please stop replying to threads where you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Please get your facts straight before giving faulty advice. The Fortuner's rear suspension uses Coil Springs not Leaf Springs.

OME has springs and shocks for the fortuner. It improves the ride dramatically.

Victorb

fortuner's front shocks are hard

rear shocks are soft (thats why sitting in the rear is better)

if i were you, replace the front shocks with oldman emu

sorry a bit OT, how does it compare with the trooper? thanks  :)

im in manila for vacation and my father in law is letting us use his fortuner.  the ride is a bit bouncy compared to my honda pilot. but it still rides well.  rides likes my nissan pathfinder.  nice suv. a little tight in the third row if you are taller than 5 feet. i dont think the front shocks are hard on the fortuner. maybe your fortuner is weighed down in the front with a bullbar or maybe your shock is leaking already.

the trooper's ride is really good. a lot better than the fortuner's if you ask me. but i dont like the handling and the steering wheel of the trooper. feels like driving an fx.hehehehe

Hi Guys!

I also have a Fortuner and I want to do something to soften its ride. I know some change shocks and some change the coils or both.

I'm very new to suspension mods and I would just like to know what do you recommend to change: shocks only, coils only or both? Some changed the rear coils and shocks only and claimed that the ride improved a lot (40% to 80%). What is the most effective?

Thanks!

springs would be the most cost effective. they cost less than a set of shocks. I know Speedlab has suspension parts for the Fortuner that could "tame" its ride.  :)

Hi DTNS!

Thanks for your reply!

I inquired on H&R springs. Planning to change all the stock coils to this one. What do you think?

The price given is pretty attractive!
