There have been rumors circulating that our gov't is seriously contemplating banning local motorsports events due to the so called energy crisis. Sort of like what happened during the 70s when circuit racing was just starting to pick up.

At first I shrugged it off but when I heard it from much credible sources, it got me worried.

Imagine, if not for the ban in the 70's, our motorsport scene would have surely matured and we could have been a Malaysia who has Sepang, Johor, Shah Alam. And here we are again, on a possible ban.

I hope the government realizes that banning motorsports will just lead to illegal street racing and undergound races which are very dangerous. Same thing that happened in the 70s when the Ortigas "drag strip" was an open secret to anyone who was into cars

I'm amazed at how our government is reacting like there's a supply shortage crisis. The problem is the high price and not a shortage. Seems like they're overblowing it maybe to divert focus from "other" matters? ???

That and their head weighs less than the average 8 lbs due to lack of brain matter

that has got to be the stupidest, most insane idea I've ever from the gov't! >:(

if they want to conserve energy resources, they should ban Expeds , F150's, and Suburbans on our roads. (especially the ones used by gov't officials either as escort or personal transport!)

Maybe they should ban books and publishing houses as well since they use up a lot of trees.  ::)

If they really want to save fuel, they should first impose it upon themselves the government officials and politicians before imposing it on the people. They are the ones who waste more fuel by parading around in ridiculous convoys with no serious threat at all. They are just fond of showing off.

I bet you can get one of them gullible enough to actually propose that just becaue they feel they are doing something smart ;D

I agree with everything that has been written. I think that the conservation efforts must start from the government first.

Now, if government has already exhausted all efforts for this cause, then it's due time for us to be involved.

Not that I, as a citizen, is washing my hands of the responsibility but as far as I am concerned, I am already doing my part to save on fuel costs (i.e. commuting to/from work, use of fuel efficient cars, etc.).

It would be indeed another sad day for the motorsports world if this will push through. The government must think that it is also an excellent tool that would definitely lure potential tourists, not to mention investors, if they see that the local motorsports is alive and booming.

Jano-

it should start from the government..
they still have the guts to use expeditions, suburbans.. etc..
motorsports is also one of the things the country should develop..
we have the best drivers in the world...
like...

manong, para!
Scuderia Ferrari!

nukee

like since when did some thing good start from the government...

however, there is really a shortage in fuel around the word. That is the reason why prices go up.

But i don't think banning local motorsports would help. People won't stop racing, they'll just be racing somewhere else.

Actually, i've been waiting for the government to propose this, because of their save on energy campaign. I knew they'll do this.

There are two reasons for prices to go up:

1) Increase in demand

2) Shortfall of supply

In the current case I think it's the upsurge in demand that's causing the prices to increase.

another thing our government could do, instead of this silly idea, is to develop the "bio-fuel" industry in our country. IMO, we have the resources to produce ethanol and biodiesel. ;)

Correct. the demand is high right now. Countries are preparing for the winter season.

The price increase has come earlier because they are panic buying before the USA hordes all the oil for the winter season again ::)
