i'm thinking of buying a second hand 2000-2001 opel astra and i'm wondering if any of you have information with regards to its performance, parts and services cost, defects or any important point.

actually, i've heard a lot of bad experiences by owners of this car. however, i've also heard a few that were otherwise. please feel free to post your reactions and suggestions.. thanks a lot!!  ;D  :D

Sometimes it's just fun to be different.  Who cares if it costs more.  It may cost less in the short run but more in the long run.  Besides, "cost" is not just money.  But usually, the best-selling car is the one that people perceive to be the most cost-efficient

That's just a general view, I don't really know much about the car.  Sorry

i agree that that astra is really good looking but is it also as reliable? hehehe

id be better off in a normal car like an altis or civic that rarely breaksdown than a looker car like that astra na lagi nasa casa hehehe

anyways ... go for a jap car nlng ! astra here is not as reliable, khit ata sa europe sirain din e so same lang

I concur!!  Its so boring to drive around in a common car.

OPEL car owners, and other European car owners are not you typical people.  They are a special breed and I think, a more mature and more accomplished type of car owner.

marlon

that's right!!!! those who drive european cars exude a different aura...parang ang classy ng dating... ;D the problem is walang murang euro car dito sa pinas kung meron man...questionable :P

Personally I really like the Opel Astra and Vectra models (never liked the Tigra). Sobrang angas ng itsura lalu na yung mga Imscher models.

Kaso I've been reading a lot of nasty experiences with the car especially the aircon. Kaya pala halos lahat ng Astra and Vectra na nakita ko sa kalye bukas ang bintana.

ed100 is right. It takes a special breed to own these cars. You have to be wealthy enough not only to own the car but also to pay for maintenance (and probably a slave to fan you while you're driving).

But checking the used cars sections of newspapers, parang sobrang mura ng mga second hand na Opels. I've seen several below the P300K range and mga '98 -2000 models pa.

Sobra naman.   Reality wise, the ones who are suffering the OPEL and European car ownership are the ones who bought the car second hand.

The rich guy who bought it brand new did not have much problems. (remember he had the 2 year warranty)   Yung nagtitipid na bumili nang used Opel for a LOW price without the warranty is the one paying for all the expensive parts now.

This is true also to guys who buy second hand E36 BMWs, Mercedes, Volvos,  etc.....  Naiinis yung bumili ng second hand Euro car since mahal ang pyesa, sirain etc....    Kaya nga na-depreciate na yon sobra.

To start with, sino ba ang nagsabi sa inyo na bumili ng European?  diba common knowledge naman na mahal ang maintenance nyan??  Better stick to your Japanese ride if you think you cannot handle the maintenance and parts cost.

For guys who presently own Peugeot, Alfa Romeo, Mercedes, BMW, VOLVO, OPEL, VWs etc.......  siguro nga nasisiraan na tayo since mahal nga talaga ang pyesa natin..  but I think majority of us are happy with our cars.
