Back in 1999, both Motor Trend and Road & Track tested manual transmission all-wheel drive versions of the 2.0-liter Honda CRV with the following results: 0 to 60mph in 8.6 and 8.8 seconds respectively.

The 2.4-liter version (also equipped with a manual tranny and AWD) even does a bit better.  8.1 sec according to Motorweek and Motor Trend for 02 and 03 models.  04s and 05s should perform the same.

One of the quickest CRVs should be the 2.4 front-wheel drive manual but I can't find a credible test for it and the 2.4 automatically gets AWD in the Philippines.

Anyway, these figure show that your average 99-and-up manual CRV will shame the BMW E36 320i, 2-liter Jag X-Type, Merc C180, 2.5-liter BMW E39 523i,  2.5-liter BMW X3 and even a few other currently available Philippine-market Euro cars stoplight-to-stoplight.  These Euros are mere 9 to 10 sec performers.  Most of these Euros mentioned are available only with auto trannys from the dealer while you can get a CRV with a manual and knowing such just adds more salt to the wound.

Of course the mentioned CRV models will also beat Japs like the 1.8-liter Altis and 2.0/2.3-liter Mazda 6 in a drag race since both these cars are only currently available with auto trannies.

I'm not a big fan of the soft-roader CRV but if I were driving a P2M-plus C180 or even an older 6-cylinder E36 320i, I'd be embarrassed if I were beat by a soccer mom driving a very unassuming Suv. ;)

Ok, I'm game if anyone wants to trade their X3 with my CRV since my CRV accelerates "faster" hehe

mas mabilis ba talag crv sa 2.5 x3?? kasi v6 yung X3 i really really doubt na mas mabilis yung crv khit na manual just the torque and acceleration of the bmw engines sobrang layo na e ..... im basing my assumption on our 525i E39 that has the same engine as the current 525i, 325i and the X3 2.5i

once you floor the car talaga itll reach 160kph in no time i doubt that the stock crv 2.0 or even the 2.4 manual would catch up with the 5 series

I think, if ever, the 2.4 liter CRV could win not because it's engine is stronger and has more kick, but because it's body is lighter.

Kaha niya magaan cguro compared to the rigid chassis of a BMW.

I've seen how fast the X3 can go.  It'll whoop the CRV, even the 2.4 easy.

Read my initial post.  I was specific to say 2.5 X3-- not the 3-liter-- since the CRV is only 2.4.  Also, I said typical stoplight-to-stoplight situations (drag race).  On the twisties and on the flying mile, the X3 would win.

Maybe you've "seen" but Motor Trend and other magazines have "tested."

9.8 sec for a 2.5 X3 5-sp auto will get beat by a 2.4 CRV manual.

Granted that the X3 tested was an automatic.  It's manual version will only do 9secs.  Again, the CRV 2.4 manual AWD has been tested to clip 60mph in 8.1.

Besides, Philippine version X3s are all automatics and mostly 2.5.  That's what you will really encounter on the road.

I've driven the X3 2.5, 3.0 and 3 series 325 and 330 E90.

No way will the 3 liter version and maybe the 325i be beat by the CRV 2.4, but the 2.5 X3 isn't that fast.

Great handlers and I'd trade in my V for any of those :)

ewan ko lang coz magazine sometimes are not really that accurate rin ... de ako nakikipagaway a hehehe kasi yun nga im assuming that the e39 body 5series weighs more than the x3 ... and its really fast ....

Yup inline six 2.5 liter ang X3 2.5.

Its got more hp, but its pretty heavy as well.

Great handler though.

Thats actually an interesting idea.  In lieu of the usual EB's, why not friendly rolling start or drag meets on a safe venue?  :)

Results of such meets would make interesting reading for performance oriented new car buyers.

badboysupra

the CRV is quick on the 1320 'coz of the tranny's gear ratio. and the CRV doesnt have top-end power. but, it'll be nice to see a B20 VTEC powered CRV though... just slap on a Si or GSR vtec head and off you go! wheee heee!  ;D  -KBR
