Switching from Petron XCS to Regular Unleaded

I've used Petron XCS on our Gen-2 CR-V since we got it but with the rising cost of fuels, I'm thinking of using the regular unleaded instead.  XCS has 95 RON while the regular has 93 RON.

Will I encounter any problems if I did?  Also, is it ok to use regular unleaded for daily city driving and then fill up with XCS or Blaze when we go on occassional out-of-town trips?

i don't think theres a problem with that..just make sure your up to date with your maintenance like cleaning the fuel system...

I did that; switched from XCS to Xtra. Didn't experience any loss of performance.
...and we 'drive' our cars on the 'parkway' and 'park' our cars on the 'driveway'...

Stick ka na lang with the better gas like XCS. When you downgrade to unleaded the first thing na ma no notice mo ay hihina ang hatak. Tapus may chance na mag tope.

IMHO lang medyo minimal yung 0.75 cents / Liter difference. Kung 50 liters ang capacity ng CR-V it's just around Php 37.50 more expensive per full tank. Pero the long term benefit of having a good conditioned vehicle is priceless. But it is doable. no need to run the tank empty. Just fill up unleaded gas from hereon.

I personally don't recommend yung frequent mixing of unleaded and premium fuel. Have talked with guys at Petron and Shell on separate occasions before. They advise to stick to one kind irregardless of brand. So if unleaded na caltex ang kinarga mo sa tank, ok lang mag unleaded na Petron ka. And if naka Shell Premium ka, ok lang din mag Vortex gold ka o Total Protec.

it really won't hurt...it doesn't matter as long as ur not using diesel fuel on your engine. my friend's brother is a mechanic for porsches and told me if you go to shell for gas you should stick with shell. of course the higher the better. right now gas is so expensive, it won't hurt if you use regular til the price goes down.

all our cars use the super unleaded of shell...

but i've never tried filling it up with the blaze or the velocity.

my honda advisor said that our accord (k20 same as ur cr-v) should run fine the super unleaded fuels

chrysler also recommends that we just the super unleaded fuels. :)

so i guess it should be ok with your vehicle.

in the event that you may feels a loss of power then just have ur car check-up for maintenance

crazy andy

pardon me for my ignorance, but isn't it normal that you would feel the loss of power due to switching to lower octane fuel?

Jabong

Thanks for the reply guys.  I thought of switching because the last time I has a fill at Petron I noticed that the XCS and extra had a P1.50 difference already.  Kaya naman sa budget ang XCS but I'm just trying to wiegh the pros and cons of using it and if switching to extra unleaded will cause engine problems.  So far, with your repliues, parang ok naman mag-switch, except maybe for some loss of power.   ;)

di ba 95 octane ang requirement ng CRV?

If I remember correctly, 93 RON & up is ok for the Gen-2 CR-V (2002 model).  I'm not sure about newer models though.

yah you'll feel a loss of power coz you switched to a lower octane rating...the analogy is lower octane means more impurities and kinda like milk they expire, the higher ones they put some additive that cleans your engine and makes it like brand new and never expires...

i think if you want cheaper gas, go for XTRA UNLEADED  instead of REGULAR UNLEADED as regular is intended for low compression engine.

So far no problem daw. 10km:1L  nga daw siya highway driving.

Extra unleaded nga amg balak ko gmitin.  I just got confused with their names since they're both unleaded.  Thanks for the link to Petron.

Maybe I'll try the extra unleaded for a few days and see how things work.  Kung malaki ang diperensiya sa hatak then i'll switch back to XCS.

Thanks!

I think extra unleaded will be just fine as xcs advantage is the valve additive which is for older engines who require leaded gasoline.
