Thats one coooooool jeeeeeeeeeep you got there!

As the saying goes, "REAL JEEPS ARE BUILT, NOT BOUGHT!"

And I think Kris wants to do that.

I am one Jeeper myself, as we still have my grandfathers M38A1 (CJ-5) with the original F-Head engine and drivetrain.  Lolo was a Jeeper too, having swapped his Dodge car for the Jeep.

Only the doors are not original, and the locking hubs too.

The farm has an M38 flatfender also, which I modified a bit to race "STOCK CLASS" (33 inches and below, open diffs).  It runs on a Toyota 5R engine, Jeep trans/transfer case, Dana 30 front, Dana 44 full floater rear, and 33's.  It also uses a Toyota Power steering box, SPOA in front, and SPUA at the rear.  I drive it daily in the farm, and the occassional races are part of its job too!  ;D

Its mild, but gets its intended job done.

Hey BryO, you can build a Jeep too, like Jojo B.'s CJ-3B High Hood flatfender, but like Jojo B, he runs a 302 FORD V-8! Hehehehehe

As for the the BUILT NOT BOUGHT thingy, my Dad always asked me why I enjoy building my things, instead of just buying new ones, well, its more on custom building my Jeep to what I want and what I need, plus the FUN of building it! Hehehehe

I think thats why you seldom see a STOCK Jeep Rubicon, one way or the other, its been modified by the owner too.

Hi Pablo,

Great jeeps you have there, specially the one from your lolo.  Other people may treasure other things, but I'm sure your lolo's jeep is a personally treasured heirloom to you. :)

As you say, Jeeps are built, not bought!

And we say:
Build it, run it, break it, fix it... Repeat!!!

Muritsky,

Notwithstanding Madam Auring's good advice (please click here for those who haven't been enlightened - Dedicated Trail Vehicle thread)  I have decided to consult an eminent scholar to, as JohnQ says, do the math regarding your race vehicle project.

Please meet Prof. Albert Montederamos Einstein.

Here is his interview:

Boy Sapot - Hi Prof. Einstein, can you please do the math regarding Boy Murit's planned race vehicle.  Please use as givens the vibrations of Madam Auring regarding his needs, and as coordinates the various racetracks and trails throughout the archipelago.

Prof Einstein - After detailed study, I have come up with the following equations which may or may not be familiar to you.  Don't worry, I am willing to explain.  Listen closely.

Boy Sapot - Yes sir.

Prof Einstein - First. E = MC squared. That's relativity.
Second, Pizza = Pie are square.  That's Magoo's.
Third, I'm sure you'll agree, Chevy > Ford.  That's the simple truth.
Fourth, Jeeps = Cool (the Azcobar theory)
Fifth, Jeeps + Chevy = Da bomb! (theory of Datu)
And lastly, since Jeeps are so cool, did you know that Jeep > Cruiser + Chevy?

Boy Sapot - Huwaaat?  You mean to say that jeeps are so cool, a jeep (an ordinary one at that) is even cooler than a Cruiser with a Chevy engine?

Prof Einstein - Oo naman, and I have scientific proof!  Observe closely.

The mighty Cruiser with its Chevy engine roams the foggy wilds of Tanay...

The mighty Chevy Cruiser, stuck in the mud!  Note Chevy bow tie on grill.

The humble hi-hood to the rescue!  Note Don Ramonster waving to his fans.

Jeep saving Cruiser's mighty ass! Joke, joke, joke!  Jeep, jeep, jeep!

Once again jeep saves the day!  Note Don Ramonster still waving to his fans.

As I have said, Cruiser + Chevy < Jeep.

Boy Sapot - Wow! ;D

Note - no Cruisers were harmed in the performance of this experiment. ;D

Pablo Azcobar

Oh yes El Sapoton!

You should talk to my Dad! Hehehe, he had a brandnew 1965? Landcruiser FJ40, with the column shift and F155 engine.

He was telling me the old flatfenders would always tow him, and his friends LandRover,  out of the mud-holes (there were no highways back then).  The only problem with the CJ-2A was that they always broke rear axles.  On the beaches, the Jeeps would run around in 2WD while his LC, and the Land Rover of his uncle would sink to the diffs!  They were just too heavy.

Another problem with the LC was that it was too wide at the diffs, and had to run in the ruts left by the GMC 6x6 and would simply high center.

So, his weapon of choice was either my Lolo's Jeep with the stronger Spicer 44 rear end, or his trusty Dodge Weapons Carrier with the 9.00x16 tires and winch.

But he stands by the reliability of the LandCruiser, it just never broke, was fast as he always ran with the needle pegged at 140km/h, even loosing the fiberglass top one time due to the rough roads.

But in the mud, he would go with the Jeep anytime.

BryO.

hahaha, great insights, and interview guys!!!!!!  however, i have always been a stuborn individual, (tis also the reason, i enjoy the going with the group, madaming special children.... ) hahaha anyways, pwede ba ma experience natin yan first hand? maybe we can test those vehicles this weekend??? i believe the formula in paper, now its time to see it in mud. har har har har!!!!!!

Pablo Azcobar

Hehehe BryO!

I think the best rig for you would be a Jeep with a FORD V-8 this time.  Maybe a killer V-8 from a F-150 Lightning with Dana's and a Jeep body.

Whatcha think bai???  ;D

sounds good sounds good..... well, according to el sapoton, i should not force something that is very hard to get or acquire... one day it will land on my lap, and ill call it mine. :) the "special child" hahaha wala pa sya, may name na.

A supercharged Jeep Rubicon would be more cost effective than modifying a Jeep to fit the expensive supercharged F150 Lightning engine with all its electrics.  Due to its Sohc design the Triton 5.4 is wide thus fit will be tight.  Plus, you'll be forced to use the 4R100 tranny that comes with it.

Great engine and I'm sure it can be done but the 5.7 Hemi swap is more common in the U.S since this engine can be mated with the 6-speed manual from the Dodge Ram.

Well, to stick to the Ford theme, and for the Philippine setting, the best set-up for Mr. BryO's trail vehicle would be either a Ford MB WWII Jeep Body, with a 289 Ford Mustang engine and Dana or Landcruiser diffs.

Or better yet, and a lot more sexy, a 1969 Ford Bronco body modified to be BryO's "Special Child!"

Unsa man bai? Okie kaayo?

That would be cheaper than buying a Rubicon and modifying it, and better yet, IT WAS BUILT, NOT BOUGHT!

Artist's rendition of Bry O's Special Child!  ;D
