This can't possibly be the factory boost level...

I would have posted my concerns and questions earlier, but a lot has happened since then. Do any of you guys have the JDM STi's? What is the stock boost level for the GDB's? Both at peak and station?

Because mine spikes to 1.6bar...and holds for quite some time :o it then tapers off and levels to 1.4-1.5. It can't possibly be this high.

Its not overboosting either, bec it stops at 1.6bar, no further. The first time i saw it, i immediately let off, shocked and worried about detonation. I just expected 1.2bar or similar, like an evo.

   I have the JDM GBD-C.

Anyway, theres more, but i want to know the stock boost levels 1st. pls help :-\

The car doesn't have any aftermarket boost controller? Yeah it does seem high.

Nada, no boost controllers. AFAIK the engine is bone stock, with the exception of the requisite bolt-ons that are typical.

The last thing i wanna do is waste space on plebian questions, but trust me man; i trolled the friggin net and i coudn't find the stock boost levels of the JDM's... :'(

A lot has happened to the car na, but i need to know the real stock boost before i can start working on the problems.

dude, if you guys can help me with the problems i will douse you with beer and honey...

Try going this Friday to Gloria Jeans Greenhills at 10 pm as this is where we meet up with Club Subaru, I'm sure one of them might know the answer.

Back to boost levels and not beer levels.

Stock boost of the JDM STI is 1.0kg. The computer will allow it to psike to 1.2kg at wide open though.

You may be experiencing what is called boost creep and is common to Subarus with a catless downpipe. A fix for this is engine management which you should program to take into account boost creep.

Another reason for the high levels is that someone swapped the restrictor (parang bulitas inside the hose)in the vacium lines going to the boost regulator giving you more boost than normal. Again, commonly done in Japan where 100 Octane is available.

Seems unlikely. Some of the Club Sivlia members already removed their restrictor hoses (me included) and you won't "mistakenly" remove it by installing boost gauges and tapping vaccum lines.

so how do you counter "boost creep" when you remove the restrictor? dapat may piggybacks?

Oh, its only 1 bar ba? afaik the prior model (bug-eye) had 1.2... my info isn't exactly standard "research material". Do racing games count? ;D

Thanks for finally shedding some light mic :) I had actually stumbled upon the restrictor hose responsible w/  the overboosting after i met up with the friday-night boys. I took out the vacuum lines and was surprised to find the little bugger (is that low-tech restrictor even stock?!) and after i had swapped evrything with silicone hoses the boost refused to go past 0.5

I got myself a turbosmart manual boost controller (2-stage). Now i run 0.7 on the street, and for track/autox i flip it to 1.2....so far so good naman :)

Normally "boost creep" is the result of long vaccum hoses coming from the manual boost controller. The best way to eliminate this is with "electronic boost controllers" like Blitz which handles boost levels more accurately. Not sure if piggybacks with boost control would equal the Blitz EDFC accuracy.

@J2GK

Now I know why your boost dropped. You are only supposed to swap out 1 side of the restrictor hose. If you replace the hose from the "other or wrong" side, boost will drop. But you're better off now with the boost controller. :)
