but if thats so, this same sheet also shows the 280 PS horsepower... not the 300hp that the 2.5L gives..

maybe the 2006 models are already 2.5L?

280 is just a gentleman's agreement. Usually, they make much more than that. Erm, is the agreement even still even standing?

Personally, i would opt for the unit from motor-image. If they're bringing the units here and at least offering some form of a warranty--1 year i believe--then subaru HQ would be shortsighted not to make some adjustments to suit the piss-water we have here.

But something tells me your gunning for the USDM bec you just can't wait. Perfectly understandable, and i empathize...neither could i ;D

AccordGTR,

if you'r friends sti's are jdm specs aren't they supposed to be converted? If so, is it really safe to take them to the track?

Yep, they are converted. As long as the conversion is done right, they are safe. Naturally, nothing beats the integrity you'd find in an original LHD, but a lot of race/track, even drag cars out there right now are converted, and they arent for street. They're used in competition. As long as your willing to spend on a quality job, and know the right people for it, its as good as anything else :)

guys what's the difference between an sti, jdm, edm and usdm?

Now that's a tricky question. Because of the fact that there are so many variants for the JDM STI

Lets start with the JDM

There is the basic STI. When I say Basic, it means it does not have goodies like the other variants like aluminum suspension arms etc...

There is also a Type RA or Race ALtered model. This model started life as a stripped out STI but for racing. Meaning no Brembo Brakes, Steel wheels, Thin glass, no sound insulation, Vinyl Upholstery etc... It does have that roof scoop though. Because people wanted an RA for street use, Subaru decided to come out with a RA with the creature comforts. Originally called Spec C. This was basically the basic STI with all the power stuff, AC, sport seats etc. It also has teh goodies that the RA was l\known for like aluiminum suspension arms, braided brake lines, bigger rool bars, DCCD center dif control, slightly reworked engine.

To capitalize on the RA mystique, they also introduced limited variants of the RA spec C like the Nurburgring spec with a a further rework of the engine, further upgrade on the suspension like STI pink springs, STI pink Swaybar and trailing arms.

There are also some variants like the V-Limited, S203 Solberg etc... that pretty much is the Spec C with different equipment added or taken out.

In paper, all the JDM cars are rated at 280PS JIS but everyone knows that this is just on paper. The basic STI is probably the weakest of all while the RA and the spec C close to making 290 or even more. The S203 is also making way more than rated numbers. Even the Torque ratings for these cars are different with the more exotic variants making more.

The USDM car is basically a hybrid Spec C and basic JDM STI. It has a DCCD diff, Spec C suspension with for USA valved shocks and springs. Yet it has the full noise insulation, pretty blue interior, smaller water spray tank like the basic STI. It does have the EJ257 2.5 liter engine which is unique to the USDM STI.

The EDM STI is basically a left hand drive JDM basic STI. No alloy suspension components, 276BHP engine which is unique for EDM. Detuned cams, different ecu etc... Even the wiring is different and EDM ecu cannot be swaped out for JDM ecu.

I recently drove an 06 STI from Frankfurt to Oss Holland last month and I can feel that this engine is severly restrained. Probably due to the gasoline in Europe which is 98 Octane only. The owner then turned on his piggy back EMS and the engine got a second wind. Too my knowledge, this is also a 2.0 liter engine because it certainly did not have the torque of the 2.5

It will certainly need a lot of tuning and is relatively expensive compared to a Honda but the potential and capabilities are quite high, higher than even an Evo or Porsche at a track like BRC.

AccordGTR, i'll leave my response to this off-board  ;)

Watch out for a white STi in the next Track Attack.  It could give that monster Evo 5 some serious competition.  ;)

doesn't matter.  even if that Evo5 came out on top, nothing tops the white STi's "stable mate" for sheer presence and "dating"!  undying respect and admiration!  sex on wheels!   ;D

not anymore.  :D

Quote from: FujiFastAs far as I know, the "Gentleman's Agreement" no longer exists. The JDM car makers have recently agreed to lift their unspoken agreement in order to compete with the US and Germans in the production of higher HP cars.

6/10 Japan,
Japan Automobile Manufactures Association (JAIA) concluded that the industry's voluntary regulation of horsepower to 280hp applied to Japanese vehicles will be terminated.

- Sankei News

However, I wouldn't expect them to miraculously start outputting cars with 350+ hp with any regularity anytime soon. I'm sure they'll want to perfect their manufacturing processes in order to live up to their quality/reliability standards they're known for.

http://www.ecutek.com.au/  ;D

Just attended ECUTEK presentation at Polo club this morning By Orange performance and Ecutek representative tuner Ben from Canada very interesting remapping of Evo and Sti now available here.  significant hp gain with just remapping and with minimal mods.

He also noted that JDM sti's need remapping coz of our local gas here.  ;)

Interesting trivia from Ben (ecutek tuner) the FQ in the FQ360 and FQ 400 means "fucking quick" that name was coined by the Mr. Power the owner of power engineering the guys behind the FQ series in Europe. ;D ;D http://www.powerengineering.co.uk/acatalog/home.htm

So someone will bring in ECUTEK over here. Cool!!!

Who will do the maps?
