what subaru uses a td04?

what subaru uses a td05?

a couple of years ago, the former owner of my galant broke the original td05 which came with the 4G63T. he bought a new td05 turbo (from al motor).  i have no complains about the turbo. it kicks around 3000rpms and still have power in the higher rpm range.

anyways, i uninstalled the td05 to have new water and oil lines fitted. a friend who also has galant vr4 and works for mitsu motors phils inspected my td05 and confirmed that my td05 is not a vr4 nor a lan-evo td05. he took note of the markings on my td05 and did some research. my td05 came from a subaru.

so i have a 4G63T powerplant (running on 510cc injectors, new internal parts including new bigger turbo pistons) with a subaru td05. mitsubaru! haha!

The best of both worlds! Mitsubaru it is  ;D
Born to evolve and accelerate. The thrill of going through hell and getting through it.

The GC8 and to my knowledge GDA WRX (not STI) uses the TD04 turbo. The Version 2 STI GC8 uses the TD05. I have owned both a GM Phil sourced GDA and USDM bug eye and both had a TD04. I also owned a GC8 STI RA version 2 and it had a TD05 so I'm pretty sure of the above.

From my understanding, ver. 3 and up STI's switched to IHI turbines already.

thanks bro! that cleared that up. so i have a 4G63T using a td05 from an impreza sti

speaking of IHI turbines, a friend from club mitsu who owns an impreza mentioned that mitsubishi turbos are considered better than IHI turbos.

he also mentioned that the WRX uses a mitsubishi turbo, TD04.

i know that the td04 is used by the mitsu '93-'95 gsr turbo (the 4 door sedan counterpart of the wrx which has a 1.8L turbo dohc 4G93 engine and awd).

as per my friend who owns a wrx, STI use IHI turbos. The current one is either VF43 or VF47.
i am not sure if the wrx still use a mitsu td04.

The main switch to the IHI occurred because Subaru wanted a more responsive turbo on the ver 3 STI. The TD05 was very laggy, though it did pack quite a punch once it gets it's stride. Subaru asked suppliers and IHI was first to the table because they already had similar applications available which they were supplying to the JDM aftermarket. From then on, they decided to use the IHI for the STI. The WRX soldiered on with the TD04 until the end of the GDA cycle since the JDM WRX was a 2.0 unlike the EDM and USDM which switched to 2.5L engines for the GDB-F (optra nose)

Yup! my previous set-up on my 4G63T (using my subaru sti td05 + 3" custom exhaust system) is a bit laggy. But once it unloads, it packs quite a punch. i only felt the kick around 3000rpms.

for this reason, i changed my intake manifold to one having a Variable Length Intake Manifold that i found lying around my garage. (i have a big shelf with lots of 4G63T parts stacked up) . -  this technology can vary the length of the intake tract in order to optimize power and torque, as well as provide better fuel efficiency.

now, even with my laggy td05, i can feel the torque in the 2000rpm range.
