thanks sa mga nagreply,  same lang ba ang type IV sa dexron 3 ng caltex? taga province kasi ako and hindi ako makapagsource ng toyota ATF.
nope... you can use maxlife dex/merc from valvoline also if you can find it there. thats all i know that works and also amsoil i think...

speedyfix

it's different pero in most cases dexIII should work naman. it's still better to get the lubricant that meets the requirements though.

Just did a drain&refill on the corolla and was looking round for t-iv atf..castrol has the import atf thats compliant.i bought the cheapest one its a merc-vi thats t-iv compliant and will drain it again after 10k miles. also saw a dex iii. Just look around youll prolly see one that has t-iv on the label

edit: it was a dexron-VI(not merc vi) and a mercon V...

mobil 1 synthetic atf and mobil 1 multi-vehicle has t-iv on its label also... :)

hi to all! actually problema ko rin before with regards to what type and quantity of ATF to use during fluid change. never bought a brand new car so this is always my concern every new purchase.

here's my suggestion/practice, although might be expensive and very safe option. instead of asking and guessing (since every A/T is unique), just have your car serviced by the dealer (kahit mahal, mas mahal pa rin pag nasira ang tranny natin) OR if you know a service advisor or mechanic, you can simply ask how they perform the fluid, then you can do it yourself and have your precious tranny had a fluid change the casa way  :read2:

as for the performance, it can be felt to have fluids changed regularly, mas pino ang andar and not to mention peace of mind. after all, we love our cars naman so better be safe than sorry :occasion14:

^true that... but having the dealer change it regularly could cost a lot of money. if you look at the owner's manual it should say what type of atf your car needs and how many quarts for a simple drain&refill.

all you do is just unscrew the drain bolt from the tranny, let it drain, put bolt back in, and then refill. its really simple and wouldnt cost you a lot coz the only thing your paying for is the atf. drain/refill is actually simpler than chaging oil... :) some shops wouldnt even change the fluid if youre not looking and all they want is money. plus, you get to choose what oil you can put not the universal oil they use at the dealer...

totally agree with aid03!  :)

but i forgot something from my previous post, during my last visit at toyota dealer to have my auto tranny fluid changed, aside from the quantity and type and most importantly the simple way of doing it, the mechanic told me 2 important infos:

(1) there is a sequence of shifting to be done after the fluid change which is from P then R - N - D - 2 - L run then back and do this 5 times to make sure that fluid entered all channels of the auto tranny and check again the level

(2) although not really related, proper maintenance is, when you change auto tranny fluid, you also have to change the power steering fluid. they are advised to be changed at the same time (every 20 kms). process is not complicated  but varies in every type of vehicle. just look for a spot where you can drain the p/s fluid and fill the tank until it reaches the proper level.

cheers!

sir how about if the car is already 5 years old but only has 20k kms on it?

aid03

You should do it at least once a yr imo..

speedyfix

once a year is too often imo. pero if it's 5 years old and 20k palang tinakbo better to do it na.

it's really important to take notes of the date and mileage whenever you change ATF and engine oil + timing belt to avoid trouble. sometimes kasi if you dont take notes of those things, you'll forget that its already due and until such time na inabutan ka ng problem sa daan.
Hi to all Gurus here... just a newbie TIA

yup... i have a small notebook on the corolla and i staple all the receipts there, just in case i sell it i have proof that it was properly maintained... easier to sell, and might get more money for the car

speedyfix

good idea keeping all the maintenance records. some people don't kasi.

Any ATF suggestion to use for my ride? What would be the best replacement for an oem atf?
Honda Accord 95 exi A/T

Raymond

makikisakay na rin po.

anybody  knows the correct ATF for lancer box type A/T? currently I am using Dexron III on the assumption that it's backward compatible even for the purely hydraulic automatics out there like mine.

Tried the cheap ones from Petron (SAE 20) pero sobrang labnaw at nahihirapan iyong transmission.

thanks in advance for the replies as i can't find on the net (yet) what ATF type that the box type matic tranny needs.
