water to clean combustion chamber - myth or real?

hi,

is this a myth or a reality?

sabi daw, in the early days, while engine is being reved high, water mist is introduced to the intake/throttle.  the purpose is to remove the carbon deposits in the combustion chamber.  according to several sites i have seen on the internet, it acts like a steam cleaner which takes out the carbon from the valves and head and eventually ejected out of the system.

myth?  or a sure way of destroying your engine?

aid03

sounds like a very good way to break the engine. water and oil doesnt mix that well.lol just go wot in the hwy once in a while to get rid of the carbon.. ;D

its real. you just need to atomize the water good enough and thats the tricky part.

if the water is atomized enough it should work. but you'll have to get a nozzle capable of doing that.

chances of hydrolocking is high don't you think?

speedyfix

i doubt if it will hydrolock if the droplets are small enough.

hmm so how about a nice atomizer like the ones used on orchids   :-\ i guess doing this will require you to change spark plugs as well hehe

spyghost

what i was thinking, as what migs have mentioned is the garden sprayer.  or maybe the manual spray that is being used when ironing clothes.

just another thing that popped into my mind (since seafoam is not avaialble in the philippines), is that is it possible also to use the fuel injector cleaners?  instead of putting it in the gas tank, it would be sucked into the vacuum of the manifold. watchatink?

Leepu Awlia

first of all what kind of car? does it run a MAF or otherwise? If theres no maf,run the engine and i would spray , water should be be atomized very well, through the throttle body at about 1800rpm, working the throttle so the engine doesnt stall. Im not telling you to spray the $hit out of it. use common sense, please. injector cleaner, straight up, might be too concentrated and might cause something bad. concentrated injector cleaner does and can make rubber parts brittle, such as valve seals and throttle body gaskets.

The best that I could think of if youre gonna do it DIY is with a paint spray gun......

oh ok, so it has to be a really fine mist... where do you spray the water for cars with mafs?

Thats the tricky part. the engine would need the maf connected in order to run but they are almost always too far downstream and Im not comfortable with the idea of spraying through the maf. ideally, some sort of mist spraying nozzle would have to be plumbed into the intake tube between the maf and the throttle body. it should be close to the throttle body......

vacuum lines or pcv if they are "after" the maf
