Brawn GP already starting work on 2010 F1 car

No refueling in 2010 so the cars have to be heavily laden with fuel!?  Isn't this dangerous?  Will there be limits on fuel tank capacity, thereby necessitating more fuel-efficient engines?   Won't they need to carry around 80 liters of high-octane fuel?

In any case, Ross Brawn is thinking way ahead of the other teams, having learnt the lesson of 2008 Champions McLaren & Ferrari who are not struggling because they are behind in developing their 2009 cars.

Grabe how expensive the sport is...imagine, the 2009 cars that they spent million$$$ on can't even be used anymore after the season ends?!  Is that the FIA's idea of cost-cutting?   Seems to be the budget cap startegy of Mosley is just BS and he was just trying to gain more political power in this very high stakes game (sport?).

Funny I saw this on Al Jazeera.  I thought they'd only be interested in the War on Terrorism. (joke) LOL   ;)

In the past, during the winning years of Williams and I think during the time when Shumacher was in Benetton, refueling wasn't being practiced.

They would probably allow the engine suppliers to have variable valve timing in their engines if No Refueling will be in full effect in 2010.




hmmm.... won't this result in tire-only pitstops? it was a similar scenario back in 2005, when the "One-Race Tire" rule was in place.  ::)

Hehe i don't think they would not need variable valve timing.  VVT is only for street cars that need good emmissions and economy.  F1 engines have variable mapping so the driver can choose what engine configuration he wants:  max power, economy, pit-lane speed limit, etc.  Brawn GP has that feature now as they showed in in one of the races.  But if they use too much of the max power setting, they will wear out their engine prematurely and the 2009 rules say the engine must be used for 8 races.  Engine reliability and economy is inversely related to power output.  If you added the hardware for VVT,  it would affect reliability as you would have more mechanical parts to worry about.  That's one reason also why VTEC is removed in Honda engines that are used in F3 or the top classes of racing.  Varying the fuel and ignition mapping and the rev limiter and designing the intake or exhaust (maybe variable intake?) is enough to save gas IMO.  I could be wrong and someone might just come up with a brilliant idea that can trickle down to street cars.

Not sure about the tire rules but I think it will be status quo except the change in the sizes of the tires i think.  Correct mme if I'm wrong but I think all 4 tires have to be the same size now for 2010 making the front tire larger than today's cars so this necessitates a change in car design as this would affect ideal corner weight and aerodynamic balance.
