Engine RPM drops a little below normal idle when braking

Need help.

May time na when braking (AC is usually on) to a complete stop or slowing down, my engine RPM drops, to around 400rpm.  Ano po kaya problem dun?  Or is this normal?

Pero pansin ko kapag di ako naka-aircon eh di ko ito na-experience.

My normal idle is around 700-800 rpm (estimate only, since it is below 1k rpm but not lower than halfway between 1 and 0 rpm).

Thanks.

:read2:if your unit (most probably) has an EFI engine, you might want to have the idle servo/throttle body cleaned..i think that rpm dropping thing is what they call "bombing"...look for a reputable shop to have it done...if that is the case, it shouldn't cost more than P2k i think :read2:

if your unit has a mass airflow meter, have that checked too

good luck

If EFI, have your servo cleaned. about P650 labor cost. change original kit(repair kit cost expensive, coz no replacement for that)
If carburator, have it cleaned also. cheaper kit than the servo type.

Try start the engine, look at the tachometer below 1k RPM/above 600RPM, switch on the A/C UNIT. if the rpm drops to and didnt recover, u need to replace ur actuator/idle up.
If not, have ur SERVO/CARBURATOR CLEANED.

many thanks for the reply.

1996 civic VTi po auto ko.

napalinis ko na late last year yung intake at throttle body, not sure kung kasama na idle servo dun (medyo newbie palang sa engine maintenance).  nakaka-recover naman po kapag bumabagsak yung idle when braking (mga 2 seconds).  naitanong ko lang din para sure kung normal ba ito o may sira na kailangan ipagawa.

kapag naka-park, then turn-on yung aircon, bababa yung idle, then maka-recover naman after a few seconds (mga 2 seconds).

common problem to honda vehicles that is 10 years and older.
the problem is kinakalawang na ang battery terminals. so when all electrical loads are on, bumabagsak ang voltage. Idling is affected when voltage drops.

simple fix lang yan, replace the battery terminals. stock terminals are no good! malaki ang resistance nya. Buy those from audio shops.

Then remove and clean all grounding points around the engine bay.
- tranny to body
- grounding block behind both headlights
- ground wire to cylinder head
- main ground wire to shock tower

Installing a grounding kit PROPERLY will also help a lot.

pls try adjusting ur idling manually. may be that will solve your problem. adjust timing if possible

Sir, about sa grounding kit, saan po yung mga "correct" points kung saan dapat ikabit other than the 4 points stated above?

Many thanks.

i got a grounding wire kit too after having that servo cleaned, must be a few years ago...the idling problem doens't seem to show up most of the time...  :partyon:

have the same problem with my civic 96 vtec...
rpm drops to almost 0 when a/c is turned on.... it drops for a bout 2 - 3 seconds then recovers.... car sometimes stalls when headlights, a/c, radio are on and you brake or slowdown....

have tried the following fix:
had throttle cleaned
had iacv cleaned (called servo as well)
had added proper grounding
cleaned battery terminals

had the car checked at wizzard in t morato (heard good feedback from them)... according to their check, electricals OK...had enging check in servitek... attached to a computer .... no problem detected...the mechanic there suggested changing the iacv... tried 3 surplus stocks from banawe.... no dice.....will just have to bring it to honda.... let me know if you have better luck..
