question is, will it be able to stand up to the heat?

specifically rp 5W-30?

Yes it should. I think that viscosity is what Honda uses for some of its cars. I've also used that viscosity in my car in the past and my engine actually ran slightly cooler than with a 5W-40 weight oil.

speedyfix

yup it should be no problem. it runs over a hundred degrees inside the engine anyway so a slight increase in ambient outside temp shouldn't affect it too much :)

thanks for the answers. i guess it's just about right.

ang tagal kasi maubos ng 5w-30 ko eh... planning to get 10w-40 next since my engine's 6 years old na din.

migs' mechanics and i can't figure out why, lumalabas na 3 liters plus a few ml lang ang ginamit ko na oil. but oh well, i'll stick to the former hanggang maubos ko...

What car?

What car?

sir conan, it's a lancer with 4g18 engine

quite confusing kasi eh... my other car, a city with d15 vtec (1.5 liter displacement) takes more oil (approx 3.5++ liters) than the 1.6 liter 4g18...

the excess was from my previous oil change pa last year... and after the oil change last week, yung excess from last time, about 4/5 of the bottle remaining,  parang 3/4 liter pa after the latest oil change, even more. highly unlikely naman na walang oil sa oil filter, pero baka yun ang reason (clogged / non-functioning etc. oil filter) oil dipstick is at full for both oil changes.

is there something i should check?

speedyfix

the dipstick hasn't been replaced naman right? minsan kasi we see people who install the wrong dipstick for the car (kasi napuputol yung luma, etc).

sir, the oil dipstick is still stock.

every week i check the oil level, hindi naman nababawasan...

it's just puzzling that it only required 3 liters + VERY little ml, when the last oil change (using the same oil and oil filter) it used about 3.2++ liters (there are measuring marks at the side of the bottle, so i guess, although not exact, i did a fair estimate for both)

what i'm thinking now is that madami pang naiwan na lumang oil sa pan (but this is unlikely kasi talagang pinatulo namin ng husto yung oil). (not much an issue)

or that the the oil does not pass the oil filter (problema to if this is the case)

this discussion though is quite academic as i've not experienced nor observed any problems (as of date), pero for conversation's, enlightenment's and peace of mind's sake, what may have contributed to this?

hehe thanks!

it's almost impossible that it's not going into the filter. if the difference in only like 100ml i wouldn't really worry about it. now if the fill capacity is off by 500ml or so then dun ka na magiisip :)

i'm curious, how long should you wait till the engine goes nuts if the oil does not pass the oil filter?
