Guys, just found this out while talking to my partner on the land of the rising sun.  :o

Top Gear's outspoken car critic Jeremy Clarkson had a.. as Top Gear says.. "a near fatal injury"  while driving the supercar at Fuji speedway Japan.  :o

The wicked G's generated by Godzilla in what Jeremy Clarkson describes "face ripping" cornering, are too much much for the guy... It will rip he's neck off. Literally.  ;D

That was probably just an exaggeration. I doubt 1g+ of cornering would cause a "near fatal" neck injury.  :applause:

Did you watch the vid bro? Maybe what they meant near fatal, is when J. Clarkson loose control of the GT-R during a fast corner run when his neck got hurt. Lucky for him he did not slam on one of the fences of the Fuji Speedway, and no one else got hurt.  :) Or maybe the old dog's neck is just brittle.  :D

By the way, love the Stig's choice of music while driving  the GT-R.. jologs! haha.. I wonder if that's his "in the zone"  type of music during a hard driving session.

Our bodies can withstand up to 4Gs without blacking out. BUT, this does not mean you are safe. Your heart tends to work harder at high Gs that may cause a cardiac arrest.

Its got nothing to do with the neck. It is more cardio related. That is why jet pilots has to be fit. They can go as high as 10g, and even if they are equiped with g suits that tightens up during high g turns, their heart still tends to work harder.

Just for those not aware, G force is the gravitational pull of the Earth, which is equivalent to 1G. So wherever you are now is 1G. As you take tight turns at high speeds or in the case of a fighter jet, pull really tight maneuvers, the gravitational pull increases, thus, the gravitational pull is doubled or trippled, hence 2Gs to 10Gs.

Effect of this is it pulls blood down your brains, and your heart does its best to pump it all up! But the increasing gravitational force brings it down causing you to temporarily black out at very high G forces.

Race car drivers are subject to this increase in g force, that is why professional racers are supposed to be fit, focussing on their cardio system. A race car does not have the g suit that is used in a fighter jet that aides in helping keep the blood in our brains, thus, it is the heart that keeps it up. If one is not fit, this may cause the heart to overwork, leading to a cardiac arrest.

Trivia, somewhat OT, didnt you know when a plane falls out of the sky, most passengers are already dead before the aircraft hits the ground? It is due to this same premise. The steep high speed dive causes tremendous amount of g force that people blacks out and due to the continues force, the heart is overworked leading to a cardiac arrest.

dagdag sa ot: most of the time though, they just lose consciousness, which isn't bad per se, pending brutal death

Hehe. Yeah we all know Jeremy.. I just don't know about the joke stuff or J. Clarkson faking the injury though, coz it was also in the Japanese news.  :) It was said to be a strained neck. ouch...

By the way bro, did you hear what sound the stig plays when driving the GT-R? Haha.. Nice choice of "in the zone" music huh.. he can get away w/ it even if it's sort of jologs.  ;)

It may be possible that the injury, if he was really injured, by the sudden change of direction which can really put a strain on one's neck. It can be compared to a head on collision except the head moves sideways instead of forward. But of course the force of a head on collision is a lot more than the lateral Gs experienced on high speed cornering but the effect may be the same albeit not as violent. BUt the video looks like its exaggerated. hehehe

And to quote Clarkson himself about the GT-R: "It corners faster than electricity."

Hehehehe
