First off, hello everyone! New member here.  This is a great forum and I am excited to learn and contribute what I can.   :)

Now off to my question...

Does anyone know where I can get some mineral oil 5W30? I have been looking high and low and I cant seem to find any. Haven't found any at Nissan(as my car is a Nissan), Autoplus, Emperor and even at Shell gas stations... :(

Just a little background, my car has 1000 km and I changed the oil from the factory fill to synthetic 5W30(Motul). However, after reading on the internet, I learned that during break in mineral oil is better than synthetic and it would be better to change to synthetic after 5k or 10k. So now I need to find a mineral oil that is 5W30.

I would really appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks! :)

Actually, you can use heavier viscosity mineral oils like 15w/30, 10w/30.  You don't really need a 5w (winter) weight in a tropical country. A multigrade oil with low winter numbers like 0w or 5w means that the oil flows well even in very cold climates.   Youre right, synthetics are too slippery during break-in periods and may not set your piston rings on the cylinder walls properly.

Hi Vivo, thanks for your reply. Yes you are right. I need any 30W oil I can find. The winter weight is not applicable for our climate. :)

Anyone know where I can find any 30W Mineral Oil?

Leo C.

Not 30W,   You may use 15W/30 or  10W/30

DTNS

you can use honda casa's Idemitsu 10W30 mineral oil! ;)  you can also try FK Massimo's Super SS-X 10W30. (if your engine's minimum API requirement is SJ)

Hi.  If you really need 30W miniral oil, go to dealers of Briggs and Stratton Lawn Mowers.  These machines are recommended to use 30W.  The brand of oil used is Briggs and Stratton.  It sells P150.00 per liter here in Cebu City.

Hope this helps.

He doesnt need the "30W miniral oil from Cebu" :violent1:  the lawn mower oil is the single grade SAE 30W for small engines.

I think I used to see Valvoline mineral oil 5W-30 before in True Value stores. Sorry to disagree but 5W and 0W (like 5W-40 and 5W-30 or 0W-40) are definitely useable in tropical countries like ours. It's a dictated spec by engine manufacturers. Most Nissan engines are specified to use 5W-30. The earlier the oil will flow through your engine upon starting the car the better.

He need not source his "30W mineral oil from Cebu". I just quoted the going price I got in Cebu as a benchmark.  I am sure there are other sources which may be available elsewhere.

Yup, agree. It was only a suggestion if in case he cannot source the 5W/30 oil. Anyway, if 5W./30 is specified by Nissan, would it void the warranty if you use a different grade of oil? alexanderb's nissan car is for sure under warranty.  He better check first with NIssan, right?

and, newer cars don't really need to use conventional oil on their break in period... synthetic will work fine

alexanderb

Thank you all for your responses. Yep I am definitely looking for any multigrade oil XXW30 that is 30 weight. I don't care really about the winter rating. So 10W30 should work as well.

Thank you for your suggestions. I guess my best bet would be to ask Honda about their oils. It's weird that Nissan does not have XXW30 oils though.

The reason why I'm really pushing for this specific oil is because I am still in the process of breaking in the engine. My car is no longer under warranty because it was imported from the US so I really want to do the break in right. :)

Your car is actually done breaking in since you said you already got 1000kms mileage right. So changing to mineral engine oil IMO is not necessary. Actually, using synthetic or mineral oil in a car's break in period is much debated. Some experts say it's just a myth that you must use mineral oil during break in (especially if it's a modern engine) and others say the opposite. In fact, many car out of the factory already has synthetic oil in it.

I agree. Porsche uses Mobil 1 synthetic as factory fill so it goes through the break-in process using synthetic oil.

However Redline says to use conventional oil during break-in: http://www.redlineoil.com/techinfo_faq.aspx    :dontknow:

alexanderb, if youre still talking about the same nissan that had a punctured tire, I'd say youre fine with using the Motul 5w/30. and considering the car i doubt you'll be driving it at break-in speeds  ;D
