Forester 2.0 conquers Mt. Pinatubo :)

Queen Victoria, based on your requirements, I would recommend you look at crossover (car-based) SUVs instead of truck-based SUVS (Fortuner, Montero Sport).

My top picks would be the Subaru Forester and the Honda CR-V.

I'm also a diver and go to Anilao regularly using my 2-liter CRV (FWD) and it works just fine.

if you don't have any problems with your fortuner besides the shaking @160kph and the sucky off-road experience. just mod it, change the tires. lift. etc.

however if you still want to push through with your purchase, then i`d go with the Xtrail CVT. Or, even a strada if you would ever consider buying a pick-up

A

how about avanza with performance mods? :D

joke. fortuner pa din ako, just a little tweak on the side and it should be better than it is now.

how about the scubaru forester? hehe we're using this car every time we dive and can fit 4 gear crates at the back..no problems. i'm guessing you dive in anilao? well this car wont have any problems climbing up driveways of those resorts and can haul ass in star toll  :)

This is the answer I can understand, it's specifically what I need.   Thank you!

sorry madam, the LC80 is toyota's best ever SUV preceding no other models. until now, it is still preferred by people and families that want's value for money. it's famous for serving various purposes from all walks of life.

it is also the same vehicle used to traverse the polar regions of the earth with almost no breakdown.

this is the only SUV that stood up against the mighty land rover defender in terms of reliability, legacy and reputation..

I feel your pain.  Hahaha!  I'm sorry, I didn't realize you meant Land Cruiser.  It's still expensive.   I don't like 2nd hand, I can't fix anything.  But thanks and I'm sorry I seem to have hurt your feelings! Hehehe! Peace!

The LC80 is great... but the gasoline model is very tepid and the diesel isn't quite as good as what you've got in the Fort... (not as good meaning not as smooth or powerful... but the old school diesel will be able to survive off-road punishment and poor fuel better)... definitely more off-road potential, but unless the primary purpose of your car is off-roading, I'd stick with what you've got.

The Navara is a great truck. More comfortable than the Fort (ride/seats) and good legs. If I remember right, though, not as much ground clearance.

What's the problem with traction you're experiencing, by the way? Lack of grip on wet concrete? On slick asphalt? Or in mud? The AT off-road tires I suggested will help with mud, but for grip on wet boat ramps and asphalt inclines, a premium SUV tire (Advan ST, Wrangler HPAW, etcetera) would do you better... and it would ride better on the highway at 160 km/h, too.

Wet cement and mud.  In the zigzag up in Anilao, the mountain slides intermittently.  That gave me a little scare.

That exactly was my question.  Galing talaga!  I've been shaking my head at all 2.0s that came my way.  So Subaru huh?   I shall look it up.  Thanks again and again!

Thank you everyone for the helpful suggestions.  My decisions are taking better form.  Second hand suggestions are not an option, I call roadside assistance to change a flat but thanks though.  I'm now looking at changing the tires plus suspension lift.  Looking at the Subaru Forester then the Navara.  Oh and looking at the Land Cruiser too, I might get a beating from Mr. LC80-lover, rt140se.  Hehehe!

why would you lift your fortuner? do you scrape your underchassis on the offroad trails you pass? if not, lifting wont do you any help in traction. get good tires i'd say all terrain would do you just fine. if you need more traction keep your fortuner on 4-high as you pass by the offroad areas but make sure to disengage it before you come back to paved roads.
