Im a victim of bad ford service. Its not isolated to me, friends share the same experience.    That led me to sell my Escape 2 years ago after owning it for almost 5 years.  Not even contacts from their own company helped. It came down to dealer vs customer.   I can go on to detail and start posting emails but this is all in the past.  :-)

Im also aware of the various "under the table" dealing between customer and service personnel. Back then, it was possible to have service done at home at a much cheaper price. I of course didnt avail of this.

I really hope they've cleaned up and improved on service. Ford really trains their technicians well, thats why they get pirated by other companies. Some also end up overseas, in other Ford dealerships.

Do they still have this ridiculous service rule that you cannot have them install a Ford part if its not sourced from them?   We're talking about a Ford part with the same part number.

Going back to topic, its a tough choice.  Take both on a test drive.  They do allow that right?  After having driven it will you really know what you want.  Of course, best to know the pros and cons as well.  Having a long warranty doesnt really mean the car is solid.  Take the Subaru for example.  Warranty is not as long as others but rarely do you meet owners asking for warranty claims.

Talking about ridiculous rules, they have this rule that employees of Ford who doesnt have Ford cars cannot park in the Company parking lot!   :violent1:

Yes they still have that rule regarding parts.

Drum brakes are a non-issue. Whether a car has discs and drums or discs all-around has no bearing on how well it will stop. What drum brakes will affect is "pedal feel" as the rear drums wear down... but this will also depend on how well the system balances the brakes. I've had cars with a disc-and-drum brake set-up that braked as well as or better than comparable cars with four-wheel discs.

Agree, especially since I have no plans to race the Fiesta anyway.  I guess it's really more on the thought and the look of having rear disk brakes that makes me want to have one :)

Ownership experience, like with many of the Japanese brands, will depend greatly on the dealership itself and the service advisor you get.

Agree, as well.  My other car is actually a Mazda 3 2.0 and I often have it serviced in Mazda Alabang (since I'm from Cavite).  I won't say that the service there is good, it's probably ok at best, but dealing with the service advisors assigned to you makes a lot of difference.  They have 2 service advisors and the difference dealing with one vs the other is like night and day.  My brother, who happens to also own a Mazda told me he has good experience with Mazda Makati, so I'll try it there next time.

Anyways having said all that... anyone knows which among the Ford dealerships are good?  How about Honda?

I'm planning to go to the Ford dealership in Global city tomorrow and perhaps go to the Honda dealership near there as well if I have time. :)

The big problems with the Escape/Tribute twins were more due to the mechanical package... they used the horrid old CD4 transmission (if I'm recalling right) and the Ford Duratec 2.0 (which wasn't very economical or powerful). The newer 2.3s have a better package. And, as AM notes, the Tribute/Escape are American-developed and engineered Fords... the Focus and Fiesta are European. The Focus, AFAIK, is not perfect, but it seems it has less electronic gremlins than older Fords... only big issue I've heard about is CV Joints on the 2.0 gasser, but this was fixed in a recall years ago. I hope the Fiesta is trouble-free, but it's going to be a while before we learn about durability for the Powershift. One hopes they won't be as big a handicap as the Honda Jazz CVT for modifying and hard driving.

---

The engine mount thing... well... the 2nd gen CR-Vs are also infamous for developing recurring engine mount problems. (and those were gas-guzzlers, to boot).

---

I used to go to Ford Alabang, but my favorite service advisor is gone. Don't know if any of the current ones are still there. Most complaints I've heard are about Global City, but there are those who complain about Alabang as well. But then, there are also many complaints about Honda and Toyota Alabang... my cousin once went to Honda and came home with one mag that belonged to another customer...  ...haven't had any problems there yet, personally.

The 130PS 2.0 liter engine of the early Ford Escape was called "Zetec", this is part of the old Zeta family of Ford engines. This engine was also used by the Mk1 Mondeo of the early 90's.

For Honda:  Medyo malayo, pero Honda Kalookan or Quezon Ave are reputable ones.

Ah... yeah. Always bothered me why they didn't just use the Mazda FS-DE... but then, that was a turd of an engine in its own right... (this coming from someone who's owned two of them... one in a 626, another in a Lynx... :D )...

Finally drove the Ford Fiesta 1.6 Sport.  Lucky me Ford Global City has it and is ready to be test drived right then and there.  Here are my thoughts:

First the toys, they made me smile :).  The bluetooth connectivity and voice command system are very very cool.  The center console is very futuristic as well and I also liked the mult-function display at the top.  The 6 speaker system is more than adequate.

Interior space is fine, it is small but not too small for me.  The quality of the interior is good, the switches, knobs and the dash all have a good solid feel.  The odd "ergonomic" shape of the steering wheel grip will probably take some getting used to.  The passenger side glove compartment though seemed like an afterthought, it is very small and looks cheap when you look inside.  This however is compensated by an additional storage box underneath the front passenger seat.

Engine and transmission have good response, I'd probably attribute this more to the Powershift transmission, which seems to be able to send power to the wheels with less loss than compared to a typical torque converter automatic.  It shifts very well as well, no shift shock and very quick gear changes.  I actually had to feather the throttle much more than with my Mazda 3 to achieve smooth driving.  This is definitely not a complaint but a compliment :).

Suspension is on the stiff side, but not as stiff as my Mazda 3, which is good again.  The steering is precise but I feel it is too light, almost like there are no wheels touching the ground.  With all the stop lights in Global City though there's no chance to do some spirited driving to really test the handling.  I probably should have requested to go to Mckinley Rd but I just didn't had the time.

Anyways overall I feel the car is excellent and it feels it is worth more than its P816K price tag.  Excellent engine and transmission, solid feel inside and out, lots of toys.

By the way, I was informed by the sales consultant though that Ford Philippines is still reviewing the pricing, which potentially could go up :(.  So if I want one I probably should order mine very soon.  However I'd still like to go to a Honda dealer and try the competition, which I didn't manage to do last weekend.

I dont doubt the Ford Fiesta. Its the after sales service Im worried about buddy.  :lightsaber:

Ford Balintawak is ok.

If you need a good mechanic, Ford Manila has one of the best.  I did however lose some led bulbs there. Not a good sign imho.

I think they'll offer test drives this weekend too at Ford's EXPO at the MOA open grounds.
It seems to be doing well, specially the top of the line 1.6 Sport Powershift model, I heard some dealers are already running out of some units causing some delivery dates to be delayed on certain models/colors.

Is the mazda 2 and ford fiesta sisters like the mazda 3 and ford focus? If so, is the fiesta a rebadged mazda 2?

No its not a rebadge. Like the Mazda 3 and Focus, the Mazda 2 and Fiesta only share the basic platform. The body design, suspension tuning etc are different, so are the engine choices.

Top: Ford Fiesta 1.6 Sport Powershift: P816K (Chili Orange color shown)
Bottom: Mazda 2 1.5R: P795K (Spirited Green color shown)

The Mazda 2 is is available with a 1.5 liter engine and soon a 1.3 liter engine.
The Fiesta is available with a 1.6 liter Duratec Ti-VCT engine and a 1.4 liter Duratec engine.

The Mazda 2 1.5's AT has 4-speeds, while the Fiesta 1.6 has a 6-speed dual-clutch Powershift transmission.
