It is a very good move for Petron to go 100 octane! There is indeed a market for it with the amount of tuned compacts to high performance cars to exotics.  We see quite a number of Porsches, R8s, GTRs, Evos, Subbies, Silvias, etc who are hungry for the fuel and this is a dream come true to them.

Yes, lucky for us, but IMO the target market of Petron are not these performance buffs. given na yan. Their targets are the ignorant motorists who think that 100 octane or higher will make their daily stock commuter cars or bikes perform like super cars or super bikes.  There are more than 6.2 million registered vehicles in the Philiippines.6.2 MILLION!  Petron couldnt care less about the R8s or EVOs.How many R8s are there nationwide? 1,000? 2,000? 20? There are more than 3 million motorcycles  in the  Philippines.  Imagine their sales if all scooters and underbones and other ignoramuses will fill up with 100 octane!  Example, In one (1) city alone, take Dumaguete City, if only half of the population of motorcycles in this City will fill up in one day with 100 octane (4 liters per bike full tank ave,), that's around 70,000 liters of gasoline in one day.  Wala pa kotse Dyan! Good bye Shell,Hehe. That's for one city lang!  Habol Shell, habol! come up with 101 Octane!!!

Petron (and any gas station for that matter) has a segmented target market with differently priced gasoline to choose from like Unleaded, XCS, Blaze, Diesel, etc... I think it's wrong for you to conclude that they launched 100 Octane in order to "mislead" people into thinking that their cars or motorcycles will be transformed into high performance machines, without providing us with any sales figures of the different types of Gasoline in our local market.

Petron Blaze 100 remains to be the only non-E10 gasoline in the market.  I hope Blaze remains E10 free.

Since only one of my cars remain to be E10-free, I had no choice but to fill it up with Blaze 100  :evilgrin2:  and what can I say... my car loves it!

Haha! I know your car is tuned for 100 octane.  Do you still need to ship your Mine's ECU to Japan and re-write your ECU?  If you did already, sayang, medyo mahal ata. Your 100 octane is already here. :)

Hehe... good thing he texted me the other night... desperate na siya... no more V-Power anywhere!

I'm of two minds about the marketing. It's obvious people who don't need it will try Blaze 100... and a lot of sales will be to those people.  But really, it's a god-send for those of us whose cars can use the gasoline. Aside from Zenki, another friend with a Japanese engine tried it on my recommendation... hard starting gone, low-rpm and in-traffic pinging gone. He has a Japanese high-compression motor in his Lynx RS.

-

Again: for racers, tuners, turbo-boys and general sports-car owners... Blaze 100 is a god-send. No longer do we have to put up with compromised running in traffic or sit out a few days of driving because it might be harmful for the car.  :evilgrin2:

Korek ka dyan sir! Thank you Nix!!! Good thing pala that V power is no where to be found that day and I contact youhuh.  ;) Petron has been promoting this octane 100 in TV ads, and yet I haven't been noticing it! Maybe close minded na ako at getting other brands besides Shell's V power.

Yep bro I've been wanting that gas no more adding octane boosters. :) 100 RON kasi is a standard back in Japan, that's why my Mine's ECU was tuned that way. No haven't shipped it, you're right I don't need to do so for the mean time. Maybe I'll just do that when I change injector capacity.  ;)

^^^No one here to tune a Mines VXRom?

Leo C.

Question lang medyo OT, Is the MinesVXRom map a propreitary ecu map for Mines exhaust, Mine's pipe, and filter? and I heard they have locked their programming?  How would other (more flexible) ecu's perform with Mines exhaust , pipes, and filters?

djmondortiz

I have not seen other tuner cars with a Mines VXRom using other aftermarket part brands. Or I can be wrong. The most widely used Japanese stand alone ECU is the APEXi Power FC and the HKS FCon Vpro. Rarely see a Mines VXRom and a Tomei Reytec being used.

Ah that's not the case naman. I have Mine's VXROM, but it will work on any other exhaust, injectors, turbos etc. Just like what their sales had replied to me before, they'll ask you specific specs of the GT-R you're going to use their VXROM w/. Like what injector size, fuel pump, turbos, RON fuel etc. And in exchange for my existing VXROM + fee, they'll going to send a new one for the specs that you send them.

Actually, there are a lot in Japan especially for Mine's since a lot of GT-R owners there immediately swap their stock ECU just right after buying the car at a Nissan dealer. Since there is a "starter" VXROM there for a stock GT-R, all the benefits of a stock ecu but w/ a harder punch in performance. The Power FC and the HKS FCon kasi is popular even on other cars besides the GT-R, because you can just re-tune it anytime you want w/ a good tuner and a dyno.  ;)

We used to have Club Silvia member with a Tomei Reytec box. It's easy to tune but if the battery is disconnected for a couple of hours the settings get erased so you need to have a laptop ready to upload the saved tune.

Ive been logging my subaru and those I tune eversince we loaded up with Petron 100.  Unfortunately, not all stations give the same knock free performance.

We suspect other stations failed to practice good house keeping prior to filling up with Blaze 100 from the supplier.

A mixture of some left over vpower, petron 96 and mostly Petron 100 gave us the similar  knock values  compared to a supposedly pure Blaze 100 from this Petron station.    Both maps were knock free with vpower. One of us  eventually getting blaze 100 from Connecticut gave us zero knock same as what we've been having with Vpower.  Of course now, we can push for more timing and lean out afr.

I dont doubt Petron 100 however I rather stick to stations that I know I get good logs with.  Hopefully Petron checks on this soon. We have previously discussed this on another thread. (http://www.autoindustriya.com/talkboard/talk-board/do-we-really-get-bad-gas/?topicseen  Of course other brands and stations are guilty of poor house keeping as well. If the map has consistently worked with  vpower, why shouldnt it be ok with  Blaze 100? What happens now if you get from a different station ?    Im a patron of connecticut for Blaze. White Plains station ok too from my experience.

rt140se

just an update...

price of blaze 100 is now at 52+ at petron st. ignatius.

i wonder if the other stations will follow this pattern... i hope not. >:(
