Do you think SR20DET engines are powerful?

ewan ko lang, hnd ko kase masyado kabisado mitsubishi. I think yung alam kong 4g63t na nakakabit sa eclipse ay 240HP. evos are much faster because the engine have a bigger intercooler, almost 2-3x bigger than the stock intercooler of an sr20det. and the turbo components are not really stock, their a little much better than stock. The first SR20DET (which is red top) has 205hp  in default settings but the hp can increase from 205-280HP. And the latest SR20DET (which is black top) has 250 in default settings and can be adjusted from 250-330HP. What if the intercooler is bigger just like on the evos, bigger intercooler has gains of 25-40% HorsePower. I also love evos but i love most are the 3rd gen eclipse. Thanks for writing :)

The 4G63 and the SR20DET have quite a few things in common.  Similar displacement and very stout bottom ends.  Earlier 4G63s had a 7.8:1 compression, making them sluggish off the mark but able to handle 14-15 psi without much problem.  2G Eclipses got 8:5 to 1 pistons, and so did everything after that I think.

Turbos went from the small 14B to smaller T25 (2G eclipse) to the 16G (Cyclone / Evo).  Outputs went from 195 hp to 210 hp to 276 (probably much more but you know how it goes in Japan) hp, respectively.  The increased output was largely a function of the larger airflow provided by the larger turbo, not really the intercooler size.  Most DSMers will tell you that the 1G engine (pre '95) is ok to get since you get the 14B turbo and lower comp pistons for big boost..  The T25 in the 2G Eclipses is usually replaced with a T28 or the manny adapted to fit a 16/20G or whatnot, since it's a tiny turbo put in there to spool faster for quicker response.  The T25 usually runs out of breath at high rpm and can only flow enough air for maybe 240whp.  14Bs can flow enough for well over 250whp, and with 16Gs and monster 20G turbos the sky (and your wallet) is the limit.

SR20DET has higher compression than the 1G 4G63 engines, and is also known as a very stout powerplant.  Fully built and with a stroker kit (I think), the Hyper Lemon Silvia pushes over 700 whp..  I think that's with a T88 or some huge compressor..  Similar numbers have been obtained with 4G63s also with monster turbos.  As far as advantages and disadvantages of building them up I can't say since I don't have first hand experience building either motor.

I can only say they both have tremendous potential and can be taken far on the stock internals...  I think the SR20DET may even have a slight advantage there with its piston and rod construction.  As far as the newest SR20DET (in the S15 Silvia) I believe it is rated at 250 hp according to the brochure I have here, and the newest 4G63 is rated at 300hp in a British magazine (where they don't follow the voluntary power claim rating of 276 hp in Japan).

Sorry this was long, I just thought I'd share some stuff, jump in and correct me if I'm wrong.

yup your right. But i saw an evo6 and 7 both stock and sold in a car dealer with bigger intercooler both front mounted. Stock SR20DET intercoolers are mounted inside the left front fender and is very tiny. Its just 8 x 8 inches and 2 inch thick. Just like mine, But I've swap it out with a bigger one. Thanks ::)

If you really want a powerful engine, do you know the SR20VE? By just installing a full exhaust setup and just swap the "original cams" from the SR16VE to the SR20VE (original cams not performance cam), the car runs 13 in the strip. This is the newest engine from nissan that have vtec like HP. SR20VE has 190HP and the sr16ve has 175hp. The SR16VE N1 version had 205HP, the b16 has 160hp while the SR16ve has 175hp.

that's true, the issue is if you can get hold of one, good thing is it can be installed to the B13 and B14 sentras. You must find a donor car though, the Pulsar VZ-R N1, very hard to find

SR20VE is a nice motor as well, I have read a bit about it.  Theres a whole forum dedicated to it at www.sr20deforum.com if anyone cares to read that.  But its not a valid comparison with either of the motors previously mentioned.  Putting just the motor into a light Sentra will net some pretty fast times, yeah.  If all motor's your ticket, then SR20VE it is for B13s/B14s and whatever other FWD Nissan you want to throw one in.   There was never any factory version of a RWD VE, so anyone trying this out is in uncharted territory I think.

What car is your SR20DET in?  I'm just curious, you seem to talk a lot about the motor.

It's not just the intercooler...

The EJ20 from the WRX series also push 280hp with a small top-mount intercooler. Most of the HP is made from the combination of boost and piston compression ratio.

The SR20DETs from the silvias had 8.5:1 compression ratio and 0.5bar boost (S13) in contrast, the Evo IV had 8.8:1 compression and 0.9 bar boost. This is the power difference that you're looking for. No blame on nissan though, we all know the Evos (at least the ones before the 7) were rally homologation specials and thus came in a high state of tune from the factory.

My favorite Nissan engine remains the RB26DETT. If you haven't seen the video of the Mine's R34, you haven't seen "engine response" yet.

saw that in Best Motoring Vol. 5 i think that R34 was soooooo fast! and its a daily driver too. The boss SIlvia S15 was very good too, its SR20DET gives out 550hp, still far from what JUN made, a 1000+hp SR20DET!  :)

1000hp is nothing with an RB26DETT. I have videos of Drag skylines pushing 1200hp, and bridgestone japan has a 1600hp skyline for testing their tires.

tol we cant compare that engine to 4 bangers alam natin na its capable of high hp output pero dependi  uli sa labanan kong 1/4 mile at presyo evo o eclipse pwede mong itapat mas mura pa. o kaya 20k $ na civic :'(

1000HP is nothing if you have the $$$$$$..... :D

stanley-SR20DET-

oo nga, pera lang ang katapat and of course time consuming
