'Lang 'iya, galit na galit ka talaga sa mga AUV ano? Do us both a favor: buy your (cheaper) Ford Expedition and wallow in your mind with your full self-glory... at the same time you get to distance yourself from real Land Cruiser owners.

At isa pa pala: ayusin mo naman ang spilling mo.   ;) Your consistency in spelling "vihicle" across the board is very glaring. Baka kasi mapahiya ka eh, kapag kasama mo ang mga sosyal mong barkada. Baka sabihin nila illiterate ka, eh hindi naman yata tutuo. 'Di ba?

Actually it is being sold in the local Toyota distribution network. Sticker price is, I believe, PHP 3.1M.

I love the way it looks now. Looks like a Revo? Nah!

i got to sit on one this afternoon while it is being tinted. and man i love it. if only i can afford one. the one that i sat on was a GX model. it has the 4-cylinder 2.7L gas engine, has auto trans and no leather seats. it cost him 2.7m.

IMHO it will outperform the ford expedition in off road performance. as well as reliability and quality.

arb,

just curious. are you based in Australia? or was the Prado a gray market one?

AFAIK, only the 3.0L common-rail turbodiesel Prado is on official sale in the Phil.

IMO, I think getting the Prado with the new 3.0L common-rail turbodiesel is better than the one with the 2.7L 3RZ-FE gas engine.

tots

i really like it inside and out.  ;D

and the diesel engine is such a big improvement from the previous version, which is really underpowered IMHO.

talo lang nga sya ng nissan patrol in terms of value for money.  :P

arb

phil only. the owner bought it from the toyota casa.  gas models pa lang yata avail so he bought na it na lang to escape the price increase.

yes the patrol is cheaper, but if you just know the problems it has been experiencing here you would not buy one.

Same platform as the U.S GX470 and 4Runner.

Remarkable capability of if equipped with the Torsen LSD, Dynamic Stability Control, Hill Desecent Control, V8 and full-time Traction Control like the U.S. models that won 4x4 of the Year and Four Wheeler of the Year.

If the Phil spec model has all these then go for it.  The above options can easily be valued at over $10,000.

If not equipped with all the off-roading features that I mentioned then the Patrol presents a better value even with the P200,000 spent to convert it to 4x4.

ARB,

What Patrol problems are you referring to?

Musso,

Your anti-Auv and "anti-poor" topic was already locked on Talkboard and you were reprimanded by admin and the moderator.  There's nothing wrong with not liking AUVs...   However, disliking it because it's driven my members of the less priveleged social class is bigotry.

Though I am educated, I see myself as a member of that social class that you so despise on Talkboard.  I own and drive a vehicle that's even cheaper than the AUVs that you hate.  My Mitsu Canter 4x4 isn't the best 4x4 available and I'm not going to blindly BS about its capabilities-- unlike some people.  Like an AUV, there's much to dislike about it but it's affordable and serves its purpose well.

Further derogatory social-class related comments from you will be deleted.

johnq,

I think the Prado and the Lexus GX470 are the same. (except that the GX470 has the 4.7L V8 and is badged as a Lexus)

anyway, I think the Prado that Toyota Phils is selling comes with the "goodies" you mentioned. (like Torsen LSD, Dynamic Stability Control, Hill Desecent Control, etc) except that it only comes with the new, and much-improved, 3.0L common-rail injection turbodiesel.

arb

i know 4 units that has problems with the check engine light. it would light up then the car would hesitate and bog down. he sold it right away. it happened out of town and night time pa. buti na lang may signal ang cell.

other one had his injection pump changed, warranty pa, same incident the car would just bog down. but it keeps coming back, sold it also.

other one changed the turbo and pump also same thing they still cant find the cause.

you buy a car that is nearly 2m and it the engine will just die out on you in the middle of nowhere. sigh, i hope this does not happen to other patrol owners.

sorry OT.

DTNS,

Yup, what I meant by riding on the same platform is being essentially the same vehicle.  The 2003 U.S. 4Runner now uses the Prado platform instead of the smaller Tacoma.

Hmm... P3.1M is roughly P60,000.   That's steep but the Philippine government is probably taxing it heavily because it's a 4x4 Suv.  Too bad...  I wish it weren't thay way....

As I've said, with the Prado platform, the options are critical.  For instance, though they may ride on the same platform, the base price of a 2003 2wd 4Runner is $27,000 while a Lexus GX470 begins at $44,000.  Low-option 4wd Runners will probably begin at $31,000.

Notice the price differences are huge and it's important to know what's in the Phil Prado before saying that it's worth the money.

Anyway, from what I've read, the 3.0 Toyota common-rail diesel is a good engine.

btw, I forgot to mention:

In a comparison test I read in the May issue of CAR (a UK-based magazine), the new Prado was tested alongside its rivals. (the Mitsubishi Shogun aka the Mitsubishi Montero, the Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the Nissan Patrol) btw, the models tested were their diesel engine variants.

In that comparison test, the new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado topped the following categories: ride and handling, driving environment, safety, and value for money. It also ranked number one overall.

The editors/ conductors of the test concluded that the new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado was good both in the mud, and on the road, offers the best resale value, and has seven usable seats. They also said that its powerful, refined, stylish, and the best all-rounder.
