are local headers as good as they claim to be? i have a honda esi with a freemuff muffler. will changing my stock headers to, lets say, nodalos 4-2-1 headers improve the car's performance? also, would the sound be affected by the headers? i find the freemuff muffler too noisy

sir ALG,

welcome to AI. I suggest that you invest on a branded headers since the gains claimed by local header makers are negligible. there are a lot of good branded headers like DC Sports. this is only applicable if you are planning to have an engine swap in the future, since there are no branded headers for PH16. the branded ones are made as mandrel bent not the usual bending and soldering. though, i know someone who can customize a mandrel bent header for you.

of course there will be an improvement with your car in terms of performance as long as you combine your headers with a good intake and exhaust system. There are different measurements of exhaust for different types of engine.

as for the noise thing, the headers doesn't affect the sound but the resonator and the muffler itself does. some branded exhausts come with silencers.

Imo, get branded ones nlang, headers are a critical part of the exhaust system, itl either make or brake Hp. You can refer to an earlier thread on headers. ;)

OK naman ang local headers lalo na sa 4-1.  Dahil sa 4-2-1, kailangan siyang mandrel bend.  This is one reason kaya you have to buy imported ones.  Wala pang co. na meh mandrel bend machine dito sa Pinas.  Meron pero not for header usage.

Choosing between 4-1 or 4-2-1 depends on you.  If you want power sa high rpm, go for a 4-1 (skyway baga).  Pag low to mid range rpm, it's 4-2-1 (quiapo ire).

If stock pa ang downpipe mo and u want to install headers and assuming chambered (stock) muffler mo, hindi siya i-ingay.  Lalong i-ingay yan pag nagpalaki ka ng downpipes at pinatanggal mo yung 2 silencers sa ilalim...pero meh power gains ka naman.  About your fremuff muffler, kung free flow muffler yan, talagang meh konting noise.  Mamili ka, power or noise...yan ang sacrifice!  Also, para di maingay, pa install ka keh Fremuff ng free flow chambered type na muffler.   Try one!

if you plan to race 4-1, kung pang city driving lang 4-2-1 ka nalang it depends on you.headers can give ur car  8-12 hp increase, headers wont affect the sound of your car

Btw:local headers are not dyno tested and mandrel-bent.

as for the noise thing...try buying branded exhausts. ;)

tetetet!!!!!!!!!!

mern ako nabasa dati sa net.. they ran a baseline dyno n a civic with a freeflow muffler, then ran it again with a chambered muff...guess what..the chambered muff turnd out to have a larger area under the curve .. and a lil higher peak hp... so minsan the quieter muff doesn't mean masmabagal sila .

i think kasya ung dc headers for sohc both sa esi nd vti

Are you sure? You might be giving the wrong info. Headers alone wont make 12hp, the entire stage 1 pa nga lang swerte na yung 10hp sa dyno. :)
