Subwoofer Sound Up Front?

My ride is a CRV02 with the stock Kenwood HU.  I have a sub installed at the rear. The low pass filter is set at 120 hz.  How could I make the sub sound like it's coming from the front?

experiment..... try to change the position and direction of the sub. play with the different LPF and HPF points of your head unit.

by the way, what is the brand and model of the sub? what type of enclosure is it in? did you change the front speakers?

The lower you set your HPF for your seps, and the lower you set your LPF for your sub/s, the more you'll get the impression that your sub sounds like it's in front.  See how low your seps can go without the sound breaking up.  Afterwards, set your subs accordingly.

Actually I bypassed the HPF of the amp because I planned to use the separates (Dynaudio) full range and the sub (JL  12w3v2 in a trapezoidal sealed box) for the lower frequencies.  BTW, the HU has no HPF or LPF.  I set the gain of the sub amp so that the sub and the separates produce an almost equal sound level.

Anyway, I will try experimenting on the filters of the amps.

Thanks for your help.

you might also want to consider having it level matched, in case you still can't get the sound you want.

Hi,

The CRV's head unit is already a good head unit to start with, and I believe may HPF/LPF na ito, although IMHO less ideal ang mga cut-offs nila.

You may want to bring your car sa next sounds EB that we'll be holding so that other audio peeps could look into it. Please also bring the manual of the head unit kasi medyo limot ko na kung pano i-set iyong head unit mo from "easy mode" to "pro mode" (pero if you already know it, it's OK). I believe this is the one that will enable you to tinker with the EQ/DSP/x-over.

Keep posted lang po sa Head on section of this forum for the schedule of the next sounds EB.

Thanks.

tama po yun ginawa niyo, matching the sound level of the sub with the front seps. try to experiment with polarity. reverse the (+) and (-) of each drivers and see what configuration sounds best. pagka may mali kasi nagkakaroon ng cancellation, resulting to less bass. also have your front doors sound deadened to make the midbass stronger. this will help create the illusion of bass upfront. good luck!
