Is Isuzu launching a new Traviz variant for the Philippines?

It's been nearly six years since Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) launched the Traviz, which is the brand's contender against the likes of Mitsubishi L300, Kia K2500, Hyundai H-100, and the recently launched Toyota Hilux Tamaraw.

Heck, Isuzu even transformed one into a 12-seater passenger van with help from a local body builder. The Traviz may not be the most cutting-edge or fastest utility vehicle, but since it's an Isuzu, those who swear by the brand know it's built to last and has bulletproof reliability.

Recently, we received word that Isuzu Philippines received regulatory approval for an upcoming light-duty vehicle. Based on the listing we saw, the mystery vehicle is powered by a 2499cc engine and is diesel-powered. It also has a gross vehicle weight of 2,950 kg and a reference weight of 1,365 kg. After conducting a quick check on the numbers, it appears that Isuzu is set to unveil a new variant of the Traviz or possibly launch an updated version of the utility vehicle.

Currently, the Isuzu Traviz is available in two variants: S (Short Wheelbase) and L (Long Wheelbase). Despite being offered in only two wheelbase versions, the Traviz can be specified with various body styles, including a Utility Van (AKA F&B), Aluminum Van, Dropside Truck, and as a Refrigerated Van. With help from local body builders, customers can also have custom bodies specifically designed for the Traviz, tailored to their needs.

Last but not least, all variants of the Isuzu Traviz come with the evergreen 2.5L 4JA1 turbo-diesel engine that now adheres to Euro 4 emissions. It makes a respectable 78 PS at 3900 rpm and 176.5 Nm of torque at 1800 rpm. Power is then sent to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox.

With Isuzu getting approval for a new light-duty vehicle, we're curious what the Japanese automaker has in store for the Philippine market in the coming months.
