After Elantra, Hyundai PH to also bring back the Accent?

Hyundai Motor Philippines Inc. (HMPH) pulled one heck of a surprise at the 2025 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) when they launched the all-new Elantra. With it, the Korean automaker returns to the compact sedan market with a bevy of variants including the GL, HEV, and the turbocharged N Line.

With Hyundai proving that sedans still matter in the Philippine market, the Elantra might not be the only sedan they will be bringing back. Just recently, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) homologated the all-new Accent for the Philippines. That's right, Hyundai's popular B-segment sedan could be returning on Philippine roads soon. This coincides with our previous report last year when an insider shared with us that the automaker was indeed bringing back the Accent.

Based on the Memorandum Circular the LTO released, the Hyundai Accent will measure 4535mm long, 1765mm wide, and 1475mm tall with a 2670mm wheelbase. The exterior dimensions are the same ones found in the Vietnamese and Indian-spec Hyundai Accents. It will also have 16-inch alloy wheels with 205/55 series tires, a ground clearance of 165mm, and a curb weight of 1,205 kg.

Under the hood, the Accent is available with a 1.5L engine that has an exact displacement of 1497cc. A quick check at what other markets get and it looks like the PH-spec Accent will get the naturally-aspirated 1.5L Smartstream G four-cylinder engine that makes 115 PS and 144 Nm of torque. If the figures look familiar, that's because it's the same engine found in the Creta and Stargazer nameplates. Last but not least, the AT Premium variant of the Accent means it will likely get the Intelligent Variable Transmission or IVT, but we won't be surprised if the brand also brings the 6-speed manual models.

With the Hyundai Accent looking to make a PH comeback, we're curious where Hyundai Motor Philippines Inc. will source the all-new B-segment sedan. Currently, the all-new Accent is being assembled in India and Vietnam. With the latter being our closest ASEAN neighbor, HMPH will likely get the Accent from Vietnam.

So far, the Korean automaker is quiet about the return of the Accent. But with the LTO already homologating an automatic variant of the all-new Accent, perhaps it might not be long before it's officially launched in the country.
