This could be our first (unofficial) look at 2022 2 Series Coupe
If there's one model BMW fans are highly anticipating, it's the new 2 Series Coupe. Unlike the other 2 Series models, the Coupe is the only one available with rear-wheel drive. Thankfully, we won't have to wait long. BMW plans to reveal the new model at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 8, 2021.
However, it seems someone has spoiled BMW's surprise. An alleged photo of the new 2 Series Coupe has surfaced online, giving us an early, unofficial preview of the all-new model. As with most leaks, the quality of the image isn't the best. Nonetheless, it gives us an idea of what the vehicle looks like.
The photo was first seen on the Instagram of @wilcoblok. If the photo is to be believed, the new 2 Series could look very different from the model available today. But more importantly, fans will be glad to know that the massive vertical kidney grilles of the M3/M4 and the 4 Series might not appear on the 2022 2 Series Coupe. Unfortunately, only one photo has surfaced, and we still don't know what the rear looks like.
According to BMW's previous announcement, the range-topping 2 Series model will be the M240i xDrive, powered by a TwinPower turbocharged inline-six same as the one found in the M440i xDrive. The engine supposedly makes 374 PS and will be mated to an 8-speed Steptronic automatic gearbox. While the model will have xDrive all-wheel-drive, BMW claims a rear-wheel-drive variant will still be available for some sideways action.
Assuming the metallic purple example we see here is legit, what do you think of the new BMW 2 Series Coupe so far? Did they get it right, or should they have applied the big vertical grille design onto this model too?
